We're looking for a safe and exciting Kid's Yoga instructor for their Kid's Yoga Flow program the Bloor West - High Park area.
This is for a fitness instructor who has worked with kids ages 6 to 12 for at least 2 years in a community setting and is available on Fridays at 5 PM.
Instructor Responsibilities:
To instruct a 45-minute fun, safe, and energetic Yoga fitness class for kids of all levels and abilities with confidence
Has experience instructing fitness classes for kids ages 6 to 12 yrs-old
Understands the components of a 45-minute kid's Yoga flow fitness class (this can include games for warmups and themes)
Is comfortable instructing in community centres (NOT A GYM)
Must be comfortable instructing a class size from as small as 4 to as large as 10.
Must bring a portable speaker OR uses our portable speaker
Has worked with vulnerable kids (at-risk, newcomers with a refugee background)
Ensures clients understand RPE (rate of perceived exertion) to reduce fatigue and injuries
Can explain exercises and games effectively to kids (visual, hands, audio)
Shows compassion for kid's with special needs
Able to lift up to 15 lb and can arrange a space (push tables and chairs to the side)
Shows up 10 minutes before class to open doors, set up and greet participants, and spends 5 minutes after to pack up, re-arrange the room, and greet participants off
Teaches assigned classes on time and ends on time unless a delay occurs
Open to receiving regular feedback and discussing issues/concerns in-person/via phone
Able to communicate all issues and concerns well and in a timely manner by phone and text (including being late, class cancellations, and participants' issues, and
injuries)
Shows professionalism at all times (including conversations and workout attire) and upholds the organizer's code of ethics
Agrees not to promote themselves, their classes/services or other companies in class
Able to instruct in a community setting (not a traditional gym/dance studio)
The Instructor Must Have
A minimum of 2 years of experience teaching kids Yoga Fitness/kids sports/ kids gymnastics
A Yoga fitness certification
Must have a valid CPR Level C and First Aid training
Must have a clear Police Check (Vulnerable Sector Check) - the instructor must pay for this out of pocket and provide a copy before starting
A Health and Fitness Promotion Diploma or Early Childhood Education Diploma OR Fitness Instructor Specialist or Personal Trainer certificate from a Canadian/North American organization or equivalent
Must speak, read, and understand English well
A portable speaker is ideal but we can provide one too
Should have their own personal liability insurance for workplace injuries
The Interview Process has 3 steps:
1. To save time, Sumera will call applicants to discuss their qualifications and availability (from a private caller ID) before setting up a Zoom interview. The applicant may be required to attend at least 2 of their dance/fitness classes to see their programming.
2. A mock-up class on Zoom where the candidate leads Sumera or her recruiter through a kid's Yoga fitness class according to their structure (this will be provided to the chosen applicants)
3. If selected, can provide 2 relevant work references, a police check (vulnerable sector check), copies of their certifications, valid CPR certificate, government ID, and the signing of an instructor agreement outlining the terms and conditions.
Honorarium
This is not employment. This is position with a monthly honorarium issued at the end of the month
$40 flat per class - A certified Yoga teaching certification, Kids fitness certifications, a Health and Fitness Promotion or Fitness Instructor Specialist or Personal Trainer certificate from a Canadian/North American fitness governing body or equivalent, 3 yrs+ instruction experience working with children and kids, valid CPR and first aid, police check (VSC) and personal liability insurance

This 6-week program is currently on Fridays at 5 PM in the High Park / Bloor West area of Toronto. Does this day and time work with your schedule? Priority will be placed on those who are available and can commute to the Bloor West area on time
This is not employment -we offer a paid honorarium at the end of the month or contract for the total of classes instructed. The stipend is $40 flat per class. If the instructor does not have some of the experience, a lower amount may be offered. Are you comfortable with this?
