As a member of the product Development team, the Materials Scientist will collaborate with an experienced team of scientists to use your knowledge of materials to develop new PE products for NOVA Chemicals\'s customers. Your knowledge of materials will also help us develop PE for new applications and new packaging designs. You will be contributing to the understanding of structure-property relationships, how these can be influenced by the polymerization process and how these can lead to new products. You will enable NOVA Chemicals\' ambition to realize a circular economy.

You Will Use Your Expertise To:
  • Devote a high priority on assessing and addressing safety risks.
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of proprietary and innovative solutions resulting in new products and applications that help NOVA Chemicals serve its customers.
  • Participate in strategic activities including developing white papers and roadmaps for product development to support NOVA business strategy.
  • Identify and translate industry trends and customer needs into research deliverables and future strategic business needs.
  • Become in-house expert with fundamental knowledge of \xe2\x80\x9cplastics\xe2\x80\x9d material broadly including but not limited to rheology, structural properties and interactions with other materials.
  • Become an expert in the applications of PE and develop an understanding of the competition to PE - other plastics - and their applications.
  • Manage multiple projects or tasks.
  • Document ideas and contributions to intellectual property.
  • Advise and provide support on laboratory and polymer processing equipment.
  • Write technical reports and identify specifications for processes, products, or tests.
  • Effectively interact with the business, vendors, and academia to develop innovative ideas and business opportunities.
  • Able to critically analyze data and draw conclusions and recommendations on projects and advises go/no-go decisions to senior leadership.
What We Are Looking For:
  • Advanced degrees in Materials/Polymer Science, Polymer Chemistry, Polymer engineering or a related discipline (Masters with minimum 8 years relevant working experience or Ph.D. with a minimum experience of 3-5 years is required).
  • A strong background in plastics and competitive materials and the ability to use this expertise to identify business opportunities for NOVA Chemicals.
  • Fundamental understanding of polyolefin processing and performance requirements as well as polymer processing and converting equipment is required.
  • Empirical understanding of the application of polymer processing aids and additives.
  • Have proven expertise in polymer Structure-Property relationship (experimental and/or computational). In-depth knowledge and expertise on Polyolefins (PP, LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, and specialties PO) as well as formulated/compounded products is required.
  • Have general knowledge on polyolefin chemistry, catalysis, manufacturing process, secondary operations, and application spaces.
In addition, you will:
  • Be a self-starter and proactive; capable of working independently to identify, lead and drive projects to completion while retaining flexibility and maintaining composure under pressure.
  • Have excellent communication skills and foster collaborative relationships at all organizational levels to build and support a team environment.
  • Be committed to product excellence and value (quality, service, and cost).
  • Have a positive and team-oriented attitude with a high attention to detail, accuracy and precision.
  • Demonstrate good practice of the Scientific Methodology and documents their work via technical reports, intellectual property, conference presentations and journals.
