We are looking for a Scientist I, Ontologies to join our team. The primary function of this role is to contribute to the scientific accuracy of the BenchSci platform by curating and maintaining the underlying experimental ontologies. You will report directly to the Bioinformatics Science Lead, and work closely with your colleagues in Science and across the organization with teams in Product & Engineering, collaborating on projects that deliver real impact to the work of our scientific community, and ultimately life science research.

You Will:

  • Assist in the development, update, and maintenance of BenchSci's experimental ontologies.
  • Participate in initiatives that leverage BencSci's ontology data to provide the greatest value to users
  • Support the evaluation and preparation of data for new projects as the need arises.
  • Help with regular audits of experimental data on the platform to improve data accuracy.
  • Assist with data analysis projects, including customer-facing data analysis projects.
  • Improve platform features and future company direction by providing insights as a scientific user.
You Have:
  • A minimum of an MSc in life sciences or a related field
  • Sufficient knowledge of molecular/cell biology and genetics
  • Proficient in data processing and wrangling tools such as Python, SQL, and Excel.
  • Solid knowledge in using major scientific and medical ontologies, including but not limited to MeSH, Drugbank, CHEMBL, Gene-Ontology
  • Sufficient knowledge and/or bench experience in experimental biology research techniques, including but not limited to:
  • Immunological methods (in vitro, cell-based and analytical)
  • Genetics (cloning, CRISPR, NGS, PCR)
  • Analytical Biology (pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, LC/MS, SPR)
  • In vivo studies (cell cultures, animal models)
  • Microbiology (cloning, microscopy, strain analysis)
Nice to Haves:
  • Experience working with microbial classification and databases
  • Experience working in any of the following therapeutic areas: Oncology, Neuroscience, Cardiometabolic Diseases, Inflammation, Ophthalmology, Rare Diseases, GI Diseases and/or Hematology & Infectious Disease
