Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated, and enthusiastic Scientific Copyeditor based in or around the Greater Toronto Area (Ontario, Canada) to join our team. This is a full-time position that allows you to work remotely, with the exception of occasional in-person meetings at our downtown Toronto office. As a Scientific Copyeditor, your primary job responsibilities would include copyediting research manuscripts for accuracy, language, and style, as well as performing quality control checks on copyedited manuscripts. Required qualifications and experience: - 3 or more years of experience copyediting research manuscripts (in English)
- Academic background or professional experience in STEM
- Advanced written and verbal English language skills
- Familiarity and experience with the American Medical Association (AMA) Manual of Style: A Guide for Authors and Editors, 11th ed.
- Proficiency with using Google Suite and Microsoft Office, including track changes, comments, and formatting functions Preferred skills: - Flexibility, speed, and high attention to detail
- Strong knowledge of scholarly publishing
- Excellent time management, and ability to pivot between tasks to effectively prioritize assignments
- Affinity toward technology, computer literacy, and experience with web-based systems
- Sound understanding of statistical reporting in medicine Responsibilities: - Copyedit manuscripts to improve language, readability, style, and presentation (in particular, for non-native English-speaking or ESL authors) in conformance with the journal and AMA style guides
- Conduct quality control checks on copyedited manuscripts and share constructive feedback
- Meet monthly targets for copyediting manuscripts
- Mark-up manuscripts using track changes and apply specific formatting
- Verify the completeness and \xe2\x80\x9cface validity\xe2\x80\x9d of statistical reporting
- Use our integrated (automated) reference software to check, revise, and format references
- Check and edit author metadata for completeness and correctness
- Handle correspondence with authors
