University Health Network (UHN) is a research hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto and a member of the Toronto Academic Health Science Network. The scope of research and complexity of cases at UHN have made it a national and international source for discovery, education and patient care. Research across UHN\'s seven research institutes spans the full spectrum of diseases and disciplines, including cancer, cardiovascular sciences, transplantation, neural and sensory sciences, musculoskeletal health, rehabilitation sciences, and community and population health. .

The Scientific Associate II will be involved in designing, performing, and analyzing behavioral and electrophysiological experiments in epilepsy patients with invasive recordings. They must have previous experience with clinical research in an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, signal processing of local field potential and single unit activity, and carrying out behavioral tasks in patient populations. They will need excellent competency in written and verbal communications. They will lead and/or assist with projects, manuscripts and grant applications. The ability to work with people from different disciplines and varying levels of scientific and technical expertise is required. Research topics involve memory, eye movements, neuro-feedback, and neuromodulation.

Key Duties:

  • Apply advanced scientific research knowledge and advise on new research direction and study design
  • Oversee the implementation of new experimental techniques and technical developments
  • Train researchers and trainees on established and new procedures.
  • Develop computational pipelines for the analysis and archiving of electrophysiological and behavioral data.
  • Perform data analysis and interpretation of electrophysiological signals
  • Leading or assisting in manuscripts preparation, grant applications and ethics submissions
  • At all times, the individual is expected to support the overall mission of the program. There is a strong clinical collaboration including patient data collection and analysis.
Qualifications:
  • A PhD in neuroscience and/or neuralengineering
  • At a minimum, two (2) years of related research experience
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g. MatLab, Python, R)
  • Proficient in cognitive and/or clinical neuroscience
  • Proven track record of self-driven, innovative work including first authorship in peer-reviewed publications, patents, or equivalent
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to set priorities and work independently with accuracy in a fast-paced multitasking environment
  • Experience in AI/deep learning-related projects preferred but not required
