POSITION OVERVIEW
Whitecap Dakota Nation (WDN) is seeking a talented and motivated Child Social Worker to join our dynamic team. Working as part of the Wellbeing Team and based out of the Chief Whitecap School (CWS), the School Social Worker is an integral part of the Wellbeing team. The School Clinical Social Worker provides social and emotional support to children and families to ensure a healthy and positive school experience. Through in-class support, short term counselling, and referrals to outside community agencies, School Social Workers develop behavioral strategies and interventions that maximize opportunities for success in school.
KEY DUTIES

The employee may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. In accordance with the standards of WDN and reporting to the WDN Director of Wellbeing, the Employee will:
document interactions with each assigned child, ensuring notes are entered into the case management system;
submit monthly statistical reports on caseload to the principal;
provide one-on-one support services as identified in the case plan for each child they are assigned to;
Establish a relationship of trust and support by being caring and honest, showing primary concern to the child and their family;
help children and their families/caregivers become involved in activities designed to reduce isolation and to establish support systems;
engage in positive and healthy activities with the children while coaching them on how to select positive healthy activities;
teach life skills, including budgeting, hygiene, and preparing for independent living;
provide opportunities for children to become involved in cultural and traditional practices/ceremonies;
create positive professional relationships;
support child leadership opportunities and address any disclosures promptly with the Principal;
Participate in CWS Team meetings with the WDN Family Support and Prevention Manager;
Participate in meetings with CWS administration and teachers for support for students and/or supporting students in the meetings;
adhere to all safety regulations, procedures, and safe work practices, including the successful completion of required Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) training; and
other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
a bachelor's degree in social work (4 years) is required
three (3) years' experience in the human services field
successful completion of training in various human services fields with a focus on First Nation communities
understanding of First Nations Child and Family Service Agencies standards, practice, policies, and procedures in First Nations setting
knowledge of the Saskatchewan Child Welfare Act, along with awareness of Child Welfare policies and procedures and the customary Standards of Care
knowledge of Indian Child and Family Services (ICFS), Ministry of Social Services, and Indigenous Services Canada (ISC)
demonstrated knowledge of First Nations History from Colonization to Present Day, including the emotional, physiological, physical, and spiritual effects of such history on First Nations people
strong communication skills (verbal and written) with ability to create a positive and safe environment
client-focused approach with ability to build positive relationships and adapt services to meet client needs
strong interpersonal skills to foster trust, professional relationships
proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and its applications
must possess and maintain a valid Saskatchewan driver's license and a reliable vehicle
