Job Description


Queen Margaret\'s School is looking for a qualified Security Officer to ensure the safety, security and welfare of all students, faculty, staff and visitors at QMS.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Security Supervisor to ensure the security, safety, and well-being of all personnel, visitors and the premises
  • Regularly patrol school perimeter and facilities, including security checks of school sites and the school buildings, Equestrian facilities, school grounds and parking areas
  • Check for deficiencies of the facilities and be able to perform minor repairs such as replacing lightbulbs
  • Monitor surveillance and security systems and communicate necessary information to prompt investigation if required to facilitate the appropriate emergency response
  • Notifies staff, police, fire department, etc. of security or emergency situations
  • Assist administrators and staff in crisis management situations
  • Assist with investigations as needed
  • Make good decisions during stressful situations
  • Assist injured persons and determine appropriate action in a timely manner, contacting emergency medical personnel when necessary
  • Maintain CPR and First Aid certification
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by appropriate administrator(s)
  • Perform mandatory safety checks and services if capable
  • Spread ice melt during the winter months

Qualifications
The following are requirements for this position:
  • BST certificate required
  • Valid Security License
  • Experience in law enforcement would be an asset
  • Level 1 First Aid training or higher
  • Experience working in school environment preferred
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Strong people and process management skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations
  • Proven ability to identify emergent situations and act decisively
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve common goals and positive results
  • Critical thinking/problem-solving skills (independent and team-based)
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality of information and ensure that own behaviour and others is consistent with this standard
  • Understanding of appropriate boundaries
  • Fluent in English, computer literacy, & experience using Office 365 software

Preference will be given to candidates who also have the following skills and qualifications:
  • Class 4 Driver\'s License and clean driver\'s abstract

Working Conditions
  • Must be available for all the various shifts in the evening and through the night
  • Availability for on-call coverage as required
  • Up to 36 hours work week. Due to the nature of the work, weekend and holidays may be scheduled in as the regular work week.
  • Frequent standing and walking throughout shift
  • Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50lbs
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps
