completion of Grade 12
valid Class II Driver's License
valid first aid certificate and CPR training
six months of demonstrated successful experience driving buses in all seasons
understanding of the BC Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations
courses and training in defensive driving or a combination of training and experience
an exemplary driving record as demonstrated by a current driver's abstract
excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience/rapport with students in Grades K - 12
ability to communicate effectively using courtesy, tact and discretion in contacts of a difficult, sensitive or specialized nature
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate and familiarity with Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) safety procedures
physical capability to perform job duties
JOB GOALS/MAIN FUNCTIONS
perform a variety of skilled task driving regular and scheduled bus routes
liaises with students, parents, peers and staff members
inspection and preventative maintenance on the bus
curricular and extra-curricular trips as required

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
drive a school bus in a professional and safe manner on established and scheduled bus routes transporting students safely to and from schools and/or extra-curricular trips
perform pre-trip inspections
adhere to schedules and safety rules and regulations
perform daily safety checks of the vehicle
clean the vehicle after morning and afternoon bus trip on a daily basis
wash the vehicle, if required
report defects and required repairs to the mechanic
liaise with students, parents and staff members
advise the Manager of Transportation/Working Foreman of road conditions and hazards, as needed
brief students quarterly as to bus safety regulations while boarding, travelling in and leaving the bus
maintain the appropriate records as required by the Manager of Transportation/Working Foreman
cooperate with the school educational staff regarding students in the care of the Board
perform all duties with a level of interpersonal skills appropriate to the position
maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information seen or heard
may be required to perform other assigned comparable duties which are within the scope of knowledge, skills and abilities required by this class specification
HOURS AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Five days per week following the school calendar
6:30 am - 8:30 am and 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm
SALARY
28 - 30 dollars per hour
EVALUATION PROCEDURES
Probation: 3 months
Regular: Annually
