School And Community Support Worker / Extended Autism (full Time)

Job Description

The Chris Rose Therapy Centre for Autism is in Kamloops, British Columbia, and offers a School Based Program working with children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder. We are looking for an individual or individuals to join our staff in a part-time capacity.

This position involves working

5 days per week

from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM, from Monday through Friday. Those hours can extend as late as 5:00 PM once an extended client has been found. This position is a minimum of 32.5 hours.

School-Based Program:

With the help of parents, caregivers, and the child's home school, we work to empower the individuals we serve to achieve their social, emotional, academic and vocational goals. Each child will have an individual Therapeutic Goal Plan, and our staff works with the child on their therapy goals. Academic support is provided by the child's home school as we are not an academic organization. Children may have safety and self-care plans, which our staff follow.

This is not a teaching position or a desk job.



Extended Program:

This is an individualized program created to match the child/youth's developmental level and learning strengths and areas of concerns, and the child works one-on-one with one of our staff 1-2 hours per week, days decided on with the family. This is a community-based program.

Duties:

Responsible for well-being of the individual in your care including behaviour management, self-care tasks, welfare and safety. Administration of medication if required. Responsible for caring forth programs which facilitate the child's social, emotional, physical and vocational goals Responsible to communicate to supervisor, parents, caregiver and other professionals. Responsible to document as per standards. May also be responsible to plan activities and document as per standards. Responsible for cleaning and tidying work area. Responsible for Safe Transportation of person served. Other duties as assigned
Due to the nature of our program, our staff are required to:

have completed at least a 1 year post-secondary Certificate with at least 20 hours of child development experience (examples include Teaching Assistant/Teachers Aide Certification, School and Community Support Certification, Human Services Certification and Early Childhood Education Certification) have a valid Emergency First Aid - Community Care (or equivalent) have a valid driver's license, reliable vehicle to transport the person's we work with, and have a clean driver's abstract/record pass a Vulnerable Sector Check through the Criminal Records Review Program be able to swim and be comfortable in the water (we do swim therapy once a week) have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (this is a condition of an organization we contract to)
This is not a teaching position or a desk job -- our staff works directly with the individuals we serve, so this is a physical position not an administrative position. We will train the successful applicant in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training for the purposes of working with the Centre, and we will also cover the cost of the Criminal Records check for vulnerable youth/adults. The successful applicant is responsible for ensuring they have the appropriate first aid training upon hiring.

One of the activities we do with the individuals we work with is swim therapy, where the staff is in the water as well as the person(s) they are working with. What are your swimming skills? This position requires you to transport the person(s) you work with in your own vehicle while working (there are reimbursement packages). What type of vehicle do you drive? We are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. This position requires you to be available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with the possibility of working extended autism until 5:00 PM. Relief shifts may be available on Monday and Friday. We are not open on weekends. What is your availability?
