Under the direction of the General Manager or designate, the School Age Program Manager is responsible for leading, coordinating, and inspiring a team of staff to deliver high-quality licensed school age programs, including before-and-after school programs, PA/PD Days, and seasonal camps. This role combines program oversight, staff leadership, and administrative responsibilities to ensure safe, inclusive, and engaging environments that meet Ministry of Education licensing standards.
The School Age Manager works closely with the Pedagogical Team and other departments to align goals, maintain consistency across sites, and strengthen program quality. Regular visits to school age sites, active mentorship, and collaboration with staff are essential to this role. The position also involves supporting communication with families, building community partnerships, and ensuring resources and professional development are in place to foster program success.
MANDATORY Education & Certifications
Diploma in Early Childhood Education from an accredited College (ECE)
Current registration and good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
Proof of updated immunization record, including TDaP, MMR, Hepatitis B, and Varicella
Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) completed within five months prior to date of hire
Completion of the CCEYA Self-Test Certification
Completion of Supervisor Health and Safety Training (WHMIS, AODA, Workplace Health & Safety)
Key Responsibilities
1. Program Development & Delivery
Plan, prepare and co-ordinate the implementation of comprehensive, age-appropriate programs that integrate STEAM education, nature-based learning, arts, physical activity, and inquiry-based approaches for PD and Seasonal Camps K-6.
Develop and manage a 12-month programming calendar, including PD Day programming and Seasonal Camps.
Ensure programming aligns with How Does Learning Happen?(Belonging, Well-Being, Engagement, Expression).
Actively model engagement with children, demonstrating best practices in classroom management and pedagogy.
Ensure all sites are well-prepared with necessary resources, materials, and documentation.
2. Staff Mentorship & Leadership
Mentor and coach staff in effective classroom management strategies to create consistent, safe, and engaging learning environments.
Conduct regular site visits to observe classrooms, model best practices, and provide constructive feedback.
Collaborate with staff to reflect on challenges and co-develop strategies for behavior guidance and child engagement.
Support staff in understanding and applying How Does Learning Happen?and the CCEYA in daily practice.
Identify professional development needs and organize targeted training, workshops, and mentorship opportunities in collaboration with the Pedagogical Leader..
Build a collaborative team culture that values learning, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
3. Full Day Program Oversight
Support staff in the implementation of developmentally appropriate, child-led programming that integrates STEAM, nature, arts, and physical activity.
Ensure programs align with the four foundations of How Does Learning Happen?*: Belonging, Well-Being, Engagement, and Expression. Maintain presence and support within the programs, working with staff to establish daily routines and classroom management systems that support smooth program flow.
Ensure resources and materials are available to staff to carry out effective programming at all times.
Step into program where required to cover lunches and absences as needed.
4. Administration & Compliance
Maintain accurate attendance, incident, and medical documentation in compliance with Ministry of Education standards and ELA Policies.
Monitor and support sites in meeting operational requirements and inspection criteria in collaboration with the HR/Policies Manager.
Collaborate with Site Supervisors and the HR/Policies Manager to ensure consistency in policies and procedures.
Document and report to the Leadership Team on staff progress, program quality, and classroom management improvements.
5. Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
Provide ongoing positive communication and strength based mentorship to staff regarding expectations and professional growth.
Develop and maintain positive, collaborative and professional relationships with families, school partners, and community stakeholders.
Contribute to newsletters and communications that reinforce classroom and program goals, celebrating team and program successes.
Required Skills & Knowledge
Minimum 2 years experience in a supervisory/leadership role within a licensed school age program
Demonstrated experience in classroom management, How Does Learning Happen? pedagogy, and ability to create and implement child-led programming intentionally
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills (verbal and written)
Working knowledge of the CCEYA, and Child Care Licensing RequirementsStrong time management, organization, and multitasking skills
Ability to provide constructive feedback and coach staff effectively
Knowledge and practical application of How Does Learning Happen?and the CCEYA
Professionalism in handling challenges, conflict resolution, and communication
Flexibility to adapt to changing program and organizational needs.
Proficiency with digital tools (e.g., Canva, Google Drive) for communication and reporting
