Alex House, as a neighbourhood house, takes an assets-based approach to working in community, understanding the potential of each individual to contribute to the wellness of our shared community, regardless of what brings them through our doors for the very first time.
Due to expansion, we are seeking a caring, mindful, passionate, and collaborative individual for the role of:
School Age Educator

We are inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to learning alongside the First Peoples Principles of Learning, the BC Early Learning Framework. At Alex House we look at coupling the principles from these approaches to learn through the delight in children, understand the value of play, their vision, knowledge, skills and have a strong commitment to families.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Our
School Age Educator
will work to collaborate with a team of School Age and/or Early Childhood Educators to plan, develop and deliver daily activities, that support and promote the health and development of children 4.5-12 years of age, using the Reggio Emilia approach to learning alongside the BC Early Learning Framework. Other responsibilities include developing strong relationships and communication with children, families and colleagues, and implementing high standards of care and supervision that promote the well-being of all children. School Age Programs are provided at a variety of locations such as childcare facilities, schools and community centres, generally before and after school hours (7:30-9:00 and 2:00 - 5:30 PM) and extended programming will be required for any school closure days. Additional hours maybe available in child care programs. And other related duties as required.
Qualifications Required:
At least 19 years of age
ECE an asset. Or a successful completion of one or more courses, of at least 20 hours duration in child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition
First Aid certificate
Experience working with children (5 - 12 years of age) including those with special needs and their parents/guardians
Understanding and/or willingness to learn and implement the Reggio Emilia approach to learning
Strength in creating and maintaining a supportive and collaborative partnership with families
Creativity, flexibility, initiative, enthusiasm and sense of humor
Passion for on-going professional growth and development
Planning, organizational, and communication skills
Proven sound judgement, ethical decision making, ability to stay calm under pressure and appropriate personal and professional boundaries
Class 5 an asset
Willing to take Class 4
This is a regular, part-time, 25-hour position

full day shifts on pro-d day and school breaks-with potential of additional hours, with an annual hiring range: -$21.74-$25.25 (ANHBC Band-C1-C2) Closingdate
