Scope of work:



Innu Inuit Redpath Limited Partnership (IIR) is a contractor at an underground mine project located on the east coast of Labrador, approximately 350 km north of Goose Bay. Future mining from the two separate underground deposits will extend the life of this operation for at least another decade. Both deposits contain Nickel and Copper and at peak production, 2.54 million tons will be mined annually.


The scope of work includes assisting fixed plant maintenance in daily construction activities including erecting and dismantling scaffolding as per maintenance requirements.


Job Summary:



Under the supervision of the fixed plant maintenance supervisor, the primary role of the Scaffolder - Construction Miner is constructing and deconstruction scaffolding structures according to plans and specifications, using tools like pipes, clamps and boards.



Duties and Responsibilities:



Inspecting scaffolding for damage or instability, ensuring it's properly anchored and secured in the unique underground environment. Performing regular checks and repairs to ensure the scaffolding remains in good condition and meets safety standards. Adhering to strict safety regulations and guidelines specific to underground work, like the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper ventilation. Working with other construction workers, project managers, and safety inspectors to ensure scaffolding is installed correctly and in accordance with site needs. Maintaining records and documentation of scaffolding activities. Inspect existing underground headings to ensure the workplace is safe and assigned construction tasks can be executed safely and to design specifications. Use of scaling bars, pneumatic hand-held drills, cutting and welding equipment, rubber-tired underground mobile equipment such as scissor trucks, boom truck, shotcrete sprayers and other support vehicles in a confined environment The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive

Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment Following Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and systems, including the Five Point Safety System and the Cardinal Rules, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment required in the performance of the work. Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet. Comply with the Act and Mining Regulations that apply to the work area

Required Skills and Qualifications:



Must have valid Scaffolding Certificate High School Diploma or equivalent Basic literacy (read, write, basic math and read blue prints) (required) 2 years' experience in a related construction role in underground mining environment particularly scaffolding, is highly desirable. Ability to interpret blueprints and plans to determine the type of scaffolding needed and how to construct it. Ability to multi-task and work effectively Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently Ability to make decisions quickly Knowledge of mining industry Ability to read, review and understand Standard Work Procedures, safety programs and applicable mine regulations * Must have the ability to adapt to change
