The Town of Gibsons is seeking a

SCADA Technologist

to maintain and optimize its water and wastewater monitoring systems. This hands-on role is responsible for the operation, troubleshooting, and improvement of the Town's SCADA system and related instrumentation. The position requires a Red Seal certi?cation as an Industrial Electrician or Instrumentation and Control Technician, along with strong technical and problem-solving skills. TYPICAL DUTIES




Administer, troubleshoot, and maintain the SCADA system across water and wastewater facilities Calibrate and service process instrumentation such as sensors, flow meters, and transmitters Program, test, and maintain PLCs and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) Perform software updates, backups, and cybersecurity procedures to safeguard infrastructure Maintain accurate system documentation, logs, and network diagrams Collaborate with operations and IT staff to support system upgrades and capital project integration Respond to system alarms and assist in diagnostics to ensure continuous service Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC and other safety and operational regulations




EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE




Grade 12 or equivalent Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence Red Seal certification as an Industrial Electrician or Instrumentation and Control Technician Minimum 2 years of experience in SCADA system administration and process control Proficient with PLC programming and industrial automation systems Familiar with cybersecurity protocols, communication networks, and asset management systems Confined space training and knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC)




DESIRED EDUCATION AND TRAINING




EOCP Level 1 certification in Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection, or Treatment Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology Experience with HMI development and programming Occupational First Aid certification Millwright or additional electrical ticket considered an asset

Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills in SCADA and control systems E?ective communicator with the ability to document, train, and report clearly Ability to interpret technical documents, drawings, and regulatory requirements Comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team Pro?ciency with SCADA software, Microsoft O?ce, and related technical tools




ADDITIONAL INFORMATION




May be required to respond to emergency call-outs, including evenings and weekends Must be physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and working in varied outdoor conditions A satisfactory criminal record check is required The successful candidate will be expected to uphold the Town's Foundational Principles: Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Teamwork, and Professionalism
