SCADA Software Tester

PRIMARY FOCUS
To understand, test and certify OASyS/Enterprise SCADA System software changes to the company's Control standards of quality and coordinate the SCADA Replacement software release management function. This focus involves:

  • Developing and documenting appropriate test cases for the SCADA System and thoroughly testing software applications and/or software changes made by the company and/or the SCADA vendor.
  • Communicating and tracking all defects discovered
  • Participating in meetings with the SCADA Vendor, as required
  • Utilize software testing background/experience to identify actual or potential gaps or issues with SCADA software, processes, and procedures.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Creation, execution, and refinement of Test Plans, Test Procedures, and Acceptance Tests based on requirements and any feedback from Release Demonstration Meetings.
  • Design, document, and perform all levels of software testing - functional, edge/ad-hoc, regression, automation, system/integration, performance, and acceptance test cases to ensure real-time and/or mission critical software meets functional, safety, performance, and reliably requirements.
  • Run test procedures once software deliverables have been deployed by the development team and/or SCADA Vendor at the end of each sprint or drop, modifying any test procedures due to changes between planned work and delivered work.
  • Record, manage, and communicate defects as they are discovered to the parties responsible for resolving them. Retest after defects are fixed and generally take ownership for quality and drive change.
  • Work with Test Lead to ensure testing results & metrics are appropriately documented, collected, and reported for communication to the SRP Leadership Team.
  • Actively attend and participate in the Monthly Quality Assurance Team Meeting.
  • Develop understanding of how the SCADA Vendor works.
  • Develop experience in using QC & Test Automation Tools (such as Test Rail, RobotFramework, JIRA, etc)
  • Automate tests that have high automation value and follow the PCSLD QC Test Plan Template and document all test cases in Test Rail.
  • Learn to test "outside of the box" and come up with high value edge cases based on expertise. Test not only changes made but also implementation and back-out of changes.
  • Provide input and actively work to audit and improve test processes, through ongoing usage, feedback, and regular process observations.
  • Share accomplishments/achievements in the program with the team and greater SRP group regularly, through demonstrations, presentations, etc
  • Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and problem diagnosis as a member of the team which takes ownership of quality.
  • Understand and use Quality Control best practices, standards, and operating procedures as applicable to SCADA.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation as per corporate standards.
  • Participate in the company's Environment, Health and Safety program.
  • Demonstrate technical leadership by taking ownership of issues, defects, or risks as they arise.
  • Maintain leading edge technical skills through regular technical training, industry conferences, and/or internal cross-training, and use that knowledge to help the entire team stay current on industry/technology trends.
KNOWLWDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
  • Relevant degree / diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of SCADA and/or IT software testing experience.
  • Knowledge of testing and/or the company's testing practices and processes is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Unix and/or Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Strong analytical communications and problems solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including good presentation skills and ability to write technical documents/specifications.
  • Sound organizational skills.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, priority-changing environment.
