Our team is currently implementing solutions that utilize automation, distributed energy resources, advanced metering infrastructure and other innovative grid technologies to meet our evolving operational and customer needs. The position of SCADA Engineer will use their knowledge to provide technical expertise for the Asset Modernization Team in Edmonton and will be responsible for the design and engineering activities for their assigned Asset Modernization Projects, which aim to add visibility and control to key switching devices through SCADA.

The successful candidate will create strategic plans from conception to commissioning to support ATCO\'s Grid Modernization initiative. This position will also provide operational and maintenance support for in-service SCADA enabled equipment.

This role is employed by the Grid Modernization team but will work with cross-functional teams in IT, Operations, Engineering and/or Customer Care to execute strategic planning to support the Grid Modernization initiative.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply current standards to design SCADA and automation projects for distribution feeders, based on customer and system needs.
  • Program and configure Remote Terminal Units and Intelligent Electronic Devices.
  • Support construction and commissioning of new SCADA and automation installations.
  • Develop first-responder troubleshooting and support procedures for SCADA equipment.
  • Re-evaluate and develop improvements for current standards, practices, and processes.
  • Evaluate and test new technologies and products and make recommendations.
  • Create and review specifications for DSCADA apparatus.
  • Assist in process development and improvements for capital programs and operational needs.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA.
  • A minimum of three (3+) years of related engineering experience, preferably within an electrical utility environment. Applicants with lesser experience may still be considered under an appropriate job classification.
  • Experience with implementation of SCADA technology and/or distribution automation schemes is an asset.
  • Proven work experience with relay settings and coordination is an asset.
  • Experience with drafting software, including MicroStation or AutoCAD is an asset.
  • Strong technical and engineering skills and ability to arrive at practical solutions to technical issues that represent the best engineered solution from the perspectives of cost, schedule, and scope.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong listening, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple work priorities and initiatives to meet commitments.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A valid Alberta driver\'s license (Class 5).
