Manager Sawmill Operations

Compensation Range: $70, 000 - $90,000, depending on experience

ABOUT US:


Murray Brothers Lumber Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve, Ltd. Its primary business is operating two sawmills, two planers, kilns & Stackers in Madawaska, ON, and managing the affiliated Crown Forest licenses.


POSITION SUMMARY:


Reporting to the General Manager (MBLC) the Sawmill Manager holds shared responsibility for the operations and staffing of the sawmill.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following responsibilities are assigned to this position:

Plan, organize, and direct sawmill operations and relevant staff to meet operating targets Uphold and enforce safety priorities and best practices at all times Manage operations in a manner that maximizes efficiency, production, and profitability Complete administrative duties as assigned to ensure sound planning, smooth operations, effective maintenance, and compliance with federal/provincial legislation and laws Maintain positive relationships with all labour employees and related individuals

Be prepared to stand-in for the General Manager upon request.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Certifications related to sawmill operations, safety, or quality control 3-4 years of experience in the lumber or forestry industry, particularly in sawmill operations Previous experience in a supervisory or management role within a manufacturing or production environment Understanding of sawmill machinery, wood processing technique, and production processes Skills in managing day-to-day operations, including production scheduling, inventory management, and quality control. Ability to manage budget, control costs, and analyze financial performance Strong leadership and team management skills to motivate and guide staff Ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions quickly Knowledge of safety regulations and practices to ensure a safe working environment

TRAVEL:

This position may require moderate travel within central Ontario.
