SUMMARY

Reporting to the General Manager, the Sales Specialist \xe2\x80\x93 EWP, the primary responsibility is to support the Engineered Wood business. The role is responsible for developing new customer channels and upselling engineered wood products to existing customers. We partner with companies that range in size from small independent lumber yards to regional building material dealers and national home improvement chains.

This role will support customers throughout Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island as the assigned territory. The role will also support Newfoundland customers as needed.

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS

  • Manage existing account relationships and continually source opportunities to increase sales and promote vendor programs.
  • Determine our customers\xe2\x80\x99 needs, drive our EWP business, and explore new opportunities.
  • Promote the services and value-added program of EWP strategies.
  • Make purchases of required products and schedule replenishment cycles.
  • Review and maintain assigned product line inventory levels including appropriate samples inventory.
  • Work with manufacturers\xe2\x80\x99 representatives to develop and implement strategic growth for the product line.
  • Participate weekly EWP target discussions.
  • Monitor project focused websites to seek out new business opportunities and partner with dealer customers on project bids.
  • Coordinate building plans with internal Building Solutions Group.
  • Maintain diligence with call planning, reporting, and follow-ups to ensure an effective communication loop is maintained with customers, operations, and General Manager.
Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Sales
  • Minimum three years of sales or customer service experience.
  • Ability to develop strong business relationships with managers, owners, and buying decision makers.
  • Comfortable with conducting outbound phone calls to existing customers.
  • Excellent customer service skills and professional telephone manner.
  • Experience in selling at both program level and transactional level.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate customer needs.
  • Professionally aggressive, \xe2\x80\x9chunter\xe2\x80\x9d personality
  • Strong listening skills and technical aptitude
Technical
  • Building industry or trade experience is preferred.
  • High level understanding of construction, blueprints and building methods.
  • Knowledge and experience with engineered wood products is an asset.
Other
  • Excellent communication skills at a capacity to influence sales, in person and over the phone, with customers at various levels.
  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving and deal structuring skills.
  • Good computer skills; very comfortable with Excel, Word, Outlook, CRM
  • Write emails, letters, and sale documents in a professional manner.
  • Maintain positive and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Access to a vehicle and clean driver\xe2\x80\x99s abstract.
LINGUISTIC REQUIREMENTS
  • Bilingual (French and English) is an asset.
EDUCATION
  • Post-secondary education in business or technical programs is preferred.
  • High school diploma is a minimum requirement.
  • Formal sales training is required.

Travel: Initially the role will have minimal travel. It is anticipated the role will expand to include 20% travel (driving) within the territory with occasional overnight stays. The territory covers the Atlantic region.
