SALARY: $35.69 to $45.22 per hour

JOB PURPOSE:

Operating room nursing encompasses professional and clinical nursing activities which focus on identifying and meeting the needs of the surgical patient while applying the nursing process in a caring manner. The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for providing individualized patient care and for having a working knowledge of / and to adhere to departmental Policies and Procedures, and Standard of Care.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing.
  • Current registration with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick.
  • Operating Room course within the last 5 years or minimum of 1950 hours experience in Operating Room in the last 5 years
  • Current Perioperative Certification is an asset.
  • Physically able to perform the job.
  • Neat and clean in appearance.
  • Demonstrates effective organizational skills
  • Functions as a positive role model.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, and physicians
  • Demonstrates effective critical thinking skills
  • Good record of Attendance
  • Promotes and practices patient advocacy.
  • Exhibits qualities of initiative, effective change agent, and effective team player.
  • Consistently practices the principles of confidentiality.
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Good work record.
  • Written and spoken competence in English is required.
OTHER INFORMATION:

Responsible to the Operating Room Unit Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The role of the operating room nurse includes but is not limited to:
  • Patient Advocacy - The operating room nurse responds to the communicated and the uncommunicated needs of the surgical patient offering advocacy, assistance, and support through their surgical experience.
  • Continuity of Care - The operating room nurse provides continuity of care as the link between the nursing units and the operating room during the patient\xe2\x80\x99s preoperative, intraoperative and immediate postoperative phases.
  • Focus of Care - The operating room nurse plans and organizes all activities to meet individual patient needs. These needs become the focus of the registered nurse\xe2\x80\x99s activities.
  • Coordinator of Activities - The operating room nurse coordinates and ensures the activities of the multidisciplinary team meet ORNAC Standards and comply with Corporate and Departmental Policies and Procedures. The registered nurse also assists with, or functions in, an educational and /or mentor role.
  • Clinical Skills - The operating room nurse\xe2\x80\x99s clinical skills are based on standards and theory learned from nursing, the sciences, and humanities. The scope of practice will be based on ORNAC and CNA Standards in conjunction with Corporate and Departmental Policies and Procedures.
