JOB PURPOSE
The Genetics Technologist is responsible for performing routine and specialized laboratory procedures according to prescribed policies and procedures. Work involves testing that supports the diagnosis of hereditary and somatic diseases using nucleic acids.
QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate of an accredited school of Medical Laboratory Technology
• Possession of an accredited Genetics Technology program cerification or equivalent certification.
• Holds a practicing license and in standing with the New Brunswick Society of Medical Laboratory Technologists (NBSMLT)
• Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
• Ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Good work record.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Receive and verify specimens, prioritize and sort specimens
• Process samples according to sample type and testing purposes
• Analyze raw data, perform automated and manual tests
• Evaluate, interpret and validate initial results
• Enter test results into systems, communicate critical and abnormal results
• Perform and document equipment quality control measures
• Provide orientation, guidance, and training to students, new employees, and others in health care
