Position Summary

This position reports to the General Manager in Whitby. Although Divisions and/or terminal responsibilities may change from time to time, below are functions and responsibilities of a Safety Supervisor in Ontario.

Location: 1900 Boundary Road, Whitby

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 - 4:00pm, \xc2\xbd hour lunch (may be subject to change, depending on business needs.

What you will do

  • Coach drivers on pre-trip inspection, defensive driving, HOS, (E-logs) when required.
  • Conduct safety checks on drivers and trucks to ensure they are safe and following our company policies as well as Provincial and Federal regulations.
  • Conduct road and in-cab evaluations and spot checks on drivers
  • Provide remedial and/or in-cab instruction and coaching to newer and experienced drivers when required.
  • Conduct random and scheduled audits of telematics; e-logs, safe driver program speed guage to ensure unsafe habits are identified and corrected
  • CVOR activities
  • A member of the Incident Response Team (IRT), assist/Coordinate and/or lead first response calls. Conduct accident / incident response and investigation
  • Support assigned terminal(s) Joint Health and Safety Committees.
  • Conduct post collision interviews with drivers along with your Operations team
  • Provide subject matter expertise in HTA regulations
  • Conduct JSO\'s, MSO\'s and owner/operator inspections with operations partners
  • Support your division\'s initiatives and goals they have set to improve their safety results, ensuring drivers within your division remain complaint and safe
  • Communicate and coach Pro-Trainers on driver safety matters.
  • Report weekly results and activities during weekly team calls with Safety and Compliance Manager.
  • Coach and mentor operations team on safety and compliance matters.
  • Be part of the terminals JHSC committee
  • Participate in the Monthly regional dashboard meetings
  • Support key corporate initiatives ie: 4DX, Safety improvement action plans, etc.
  • Review and ensure new hires meet US Drug and Alcohol (D&A) requirements
In class training
  • Deliver training programs that have been established within the division/terminal assigned.
  • Coordinate/Deliver on line/classroom training
  • Ensure training is provided in all safety matters within the division/terminal assigned to Safety Supervisors
What You\'ll Bring
  • Valid AZ license
  • 3-5 years hands on Driver safety and compliance experience in the Transportation industry
  • As a subject matter expert you would be able to drive organizational and provincial legislation changes
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Formal problem-solving techniques, reporting, investigations experience
  • Hands on with a sense of urgency, ability to manage under pressure and manage multiple priorities and projects
  • Safety experience in Transportation and Health and Safety
  • Fleet Driver trainer experience and/or PDIC certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all types of vehicles
  • Proven classroom/vehicle training experience preferred
  • Hours of Service (HOS), experience and knowledge
  • Skilled at Pre-Trip and Cargo load securement
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Integrity and ability to handle and maintain confidential information
  • Diplomacy and excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to remain calm under demanding conditions
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Defensive Driving / Professional Driver Improvement Course (PDIC)
  • Regional Long Combination Vehicle program, an asset
  • Carriers Edge online training, an asset
  • Fluently bilingual English in Punjabi or Hindi, an asset
