We are currently recruiting for a Safety Manager to be based in our Delta, British Columbia office. As Safety Manager for Vector Restoration, A Pullman Company, you will be accountable for leading safety initiatives in the field. We work on projects within the Industrial, Power, Public and Commercial Markets which include, but are not limited to structural concrete repair, post-tension repair, protective coatings, building envelope and facade repair, waterproofing, corrosion control and structural strengthening.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Development of procedures for safety standards and best practices.
Work in a team environment through frequent interaction and open communication with managers, employees, subcontractors, and clients.
Serving as a member of the Vector Restoration Safety Management Team and partner with Company leadership to formulate operational business strategies, establish goals, and implement solutions
Conduct and coordinate worker safety training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment for new and current employees.
Ensure compliance with Work Safe BC, customer, federal, provincial, and local regulations; and support safety efforts to continuously improve overall safety culture.
Investigate and document near miss and/or workplace incidents.
Work with personnel and project teams to perform root-cause analysis, evaluate information, and implement corrective solutions.
Mentoring/manage on-site safety personnel and lead them through their development program.
Conduct, facilitate, and review safety inspections to ensure compliance with federal, provincial, local and company regulations.
Participate in Frontline safety program (weekly update calls, observation reports, and other proactive safety tactics)
Manage /Facilitate branch safety initiatives including the management of the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
Participate in project planning discussions with emphasis on high-risk projects and high-risk or repetitive work tasks.
Proactively manage incidents, Return To Work (RTW) and Work Safe BC claims.
Coordinate the administration, documentation and management of the Company's BCCSA COR program.
What you need to succeed:
Bachelor's degree in environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S), Safety Management, Construction Management or related field OR significant experience in place of degree.
Certification of NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) training, and/or similar industry certificates.
3-5 years of experience as a full-time safety coordinator or trainer in a well-structured construction safety program (experience in the industrial market is a plus).
Strong knowledge and understanding of Work Safe BC regulations as they apply to construction.
Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement effective corrective measures.
Ability to effectively communicate expectations and hold team members accountable.
In-depth technical working knowledge of OH&S Act, Work Safe BC, Federal, Provincial, and local regulatory standards
Proven track record of improving safety performance by instituting behaviorally based safety programs.
Excellent verbal (English) and written communication skills.
Candidates who speak additional languages a plus.
Approximately 25-50% travel (local and out of town) is associated with this position.
Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites.
Legally entitled to work in Canada.
