Transdev is looking for a Safety Director in Western Canada!

Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Vice-President of Western Canada, you will be responsible for leading health, safety, and compliance initiatives across all divisions in Western Canada, with safety oversight for over 3,500 vehicles across 17 operational sites. This role, which sits on the Transdev Western Canada Executive Team, ensures the effective implementation of safety programs and policies that align with corporate objectives, reduce incidents, and maintain operational productivity. You will lead and mentor a team of health & safety professionals, analyze safety training programs and support new business start ups. The position is based in Calgary, AB with regular travel required throughout Western Canada.
Your responsibilities will include:
Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with leadership teams and national teams to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Develop and implement health and safety goals that align with fiscal, strategic, and legislative requirements.
  • Oversee governance processes, including audits, compliance initiatives, and government reporting.
  • Establish and track key safety performance metrics to measure program effectiveness.
  • Oversee the Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSCs) at various locations to ensure effectiveness.
  • Animate and manage the Western Canada health and safety community.
  • Proven experience in developing and managing COR/SECOR certified safety programs.
Compliance & Auditing
  • Ensure full compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations (WCB Alberta, WorkSafe BC, WSCC Northwest Territories and WCB Saskatchewan). xc3xa0
  • Develop and implement policies based on legislative changes and safety trends.
  • Conduct regular safety audits to ensure divisions meet corporate and regulatory standards.
Incident & Claims Management
  • Ensure proper incident and collision reporting with accurate documentation.
  • Oversee workplace injury management, including return-to-work programs and claims processing.
  • Act as the key liaison with WCB and WorkSafe BC case managers, ensuring timely and accurate claims management.
  • Analyze monthly accident cost statements and provide feedback to divisional managers.
Leadership & Training
  • Act as an internal subject matter expert on safety regulations and best practices.
  • Help develop and roll out standardized and tailored training programs
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to the Health & Safety teams, taking responsibility for overall performance.
  • Assess safety knowledge across the organization and recommend targeted training programs to address any gaps.
  • Develop, host, and coordinate safety training sessions as needed.
Communication & Engagement
  • Continuously communicate safety information across all levels through memos, meetings and digital platforms.
  • Stay informed on legislative changes and ensure compliance through system updates and communication.
  • Represent Transdev as a safety ambassador both internally and externally.
  • Increase Transdevs community visibility through participation in industry events and safety programs.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Operations & Logistics, or related field;
  • Minimum 5 years in a similar role with demonstrated increased responsibility, preferably in the transportation industry;
  • JHSC Certification Level 2, CRSP designation preferred;
  • Strong understanding of WorkSafe BC, WCB Saskatchewan, and other safety regulations.
  • Clean Drivers Abstract and Criminal Record Check; must be able to upgrade to a commercial drivers license.
  • Strong record keeping skills and meticulous attention to detail;
  • Ability to work autonomously and independently;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and facilitate group or individual training;
  • Ability to be resourceful, proactive and anticipate needs;
  • Open and willing to work a flexible schedule including regular travel throughout Western Canada;
  • Clear understanding of Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) inspection standards, National Safety Code (NSC) standards and provincial application, and provincial motor vehicle acts;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
