The Safety Codes Technician is responsible for receiving, processing, monitoring, and where authorized, issuing permits relating to construction covered under the Safety Codes Act. Technician Duties
\xef\x82\xa7 Review plans, engineering and permit documents, and other pertinent information in order to verify accuracy and completeness of building, plumbing, gas, electrical and private sewage permit applications

Processing and data entry of permit applications
\xef\x82\xa7 Ensuring permit applications meet the requirements of the Permit Regulations, the Safety Codes Act, and related Land Use Bylaws, and Statutory Plans.
\xef\x82\xa7 Provide accurate information to applicants on permit applications and processes.
\xef\x82\xa7
Respond to client inquiries by phone, email and in person.
\xef\x82\xa7
Management of forms and documents related to the processes and applications of building and subtrade permitting.
\xef\x82\xa7 Monitoring of permitting records and files for building, plumbing, gas, electrical, and private sewage permits.
\xef\x82\xa7 Administration and file management of issued permits, ensuring that projects are monitored and appropriate timelines are adhered to.
\xef\x82\xa7
Issue plumbing, gas, electrical and private sewage permits when authorized.
\xef\x82\xa7 Prepare monthly statistical reports relating to building, plumbing, gas, electrical, and private sewage permits, verify outlying data and submissions.
\xef\x82\xa7 Prepare and check for accuracy, monthly reports for payment to the contracted agencies.
Administrative Duties
\xef\x82\xa7 Manage and schedule staff meetings.
\xef\x82\xa7 Record, maintain and file meeting minutes for meetings.
\xef\x82\xa7 Manage requests for training and association memberships.
\xef\x82\xa7 Management and review of departmental processes and documentation.
\xef\x82\xa7 Purchasing of required texts and PPE.
\xef\x82\xa7 Management and ordering of department supplies.
\xef\x82\xa7 Regular review and management of website content.
\xef\x82\xa7 Regular review and management of Safety Codes Council content.
\xef\x82\xa7 Oversee approvals for department calendars.
\xef\x82\xa7 Oversee maintenance of department vehicles.
General

Work in accordance with the requirements established by the RVC Health and Safety Program and the Alberta OHS Act, Regulation and Code.
\xef\x82\xa7 Take reasonable care to protect their health and safety and other persons at or in the vicinity of the worksite while they are working. Position Requirements:
Completion of an Architectural or Building Certification with a minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible and diversified experience in an administrative and/or construction environment and/or related municipal office.
\xef\x82\xa7 Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to deal with applicants, government agencies, developers, and the general public, both in person and on the telephone.
\xef\x82\xa7 Ability for attention to detail, legibility, accuracy, and timeliness of activities.
\xef\x82\xa7 Demonstrate exceptional organizational, time management, writing, and computer-related technical skills.
\xef\x82\xa7 Proficient in reading construction blueprints and related construction documents.
\xef\x82\xa7 Knowledge of construction plans, construction terminology, construction practices
\xef\x82\xa7 Be fully competent in reviewing plans and applications for completeness and compliance with Land Use Bylaw, and related Statutory Plans.
\xef\x82\xa7 Familiar with legal land descriptions.
\xef\x82\xa7 Possess ability to adhere to frequent deadlines.
\xef\x82\xa7 Possess the skill and knowledge to assume the next higher level, in the event of absence, within this category when required.
\xef\x82\xa7 Ability to deal with public in a positive, facilitative and pleasant manner.
