Job Description

The Safety and Compliance Manager reports directly to the General Manager and is responsible for promoting, monitoring, reporting and improving the Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies and procedures of King Freight Lines Limited, Far East Enterprises Ltd, Ranger Transport Ltd and any associated companies.

Job Duties:



Operational Responsibilities



Monitor, co-ordinate, schedule and provide training for all staff ensuring training complies with all regulatory and customer needs. Maintain compliance with all regulatory bodies including but not limited to Transport Canada, FMCSA, USDOT, CVSA, Department of Transportation, CBSA / CBP, PIP / CTPAT, IFTA, NSTSA, Canada Labor, Workers Compensation Board and any other regulatory bodies. Work as a team to manage WCB claims and return to work programs Write, amend and monitor as required Company Policies and Procedures, Driver Training Programs, safety plans, SOPs, Emergency Action Plans, and any other required documentation. Maintain a Satisfactory rating on the Carrier Profile and FMCSA Safety Management System Record and report all incidents and accidents, act as a focal point for employees involved in on the road and facility incidents, cooperate with insurance and WCB as required, compile data, analyze and identify corrective actions. Work as part of a team with other managers to achieve company goals and objectives. Attend and/or lead shop and driver meetings on a regular basis. Communicate and meet with clients as required regarding safety and compliance issues. Monitor and ensure Hours of Service are adhered to and train drivers on the proper use of E-logs via Omnitracs. Manage and calculate safety bonus programs for staff. Lead the OHS committee and ensure compliance with all laws and regulations.

Administrative Responsibilities



Track expiry dates of employee training, driver licenses and profiles Track, manage and report safety and compliance statistics and KPIs and report to senior management and relevant staff. Create training presentations and documentation. Maintain valid licensing for all units, permits, and operating authorities (DOT / MC / HUT) and insurance. Audit driver logs. Conduct, prepare, record and report facility inspections as required.

Employee Management Responsibilities



Recruit, hire, road test, onboard and orientate new drivers in cooperation with the Dispatch Manager and General Manager to maintain a fully operational and competent fleet. Coordinate with General Manager regarding driver recruiting, retention, discipline, and terminations. Motivate staff to minimize Lost Time Incidents. Inform General Manager of any and all issues involving staffing, safety and compliance. Work with the General Manager to recommend and apply corrective actions or discipline with staff. Mentor and assist all staff in achieving Safety, Compliance and Company goals.
All other duties as assigned by General Manager.

Experience:



Experience in Safety and Compliance and as a Driver in the transportation industry preferred.

Experience in OHS and WCB regulations and compliance.

Education:



Diploma, Certificate, or Designation as a Safety Professional is preferred.

Post secondary education in a safety field is beneficial.

Valid Class 1 Driver's License.

Competencies:



Regulations and Quality Assurance: compliance with relevant provincial and federal laws and regulations.

Health, Safety, and Environment: assessing and managing risks associated with safety and environment issues.

Advanced computer skills: using a computer and related applications to input, store, and retrieve information, create reports, training courses and utilize the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.

Knowledge of TMS and Truckmate is beneficial

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
