As a Safety Advisor, you'll be instrumental in developing, implementing, and maintaining safety policies and procedures to protect the well-being of employees, contractors, and visitors. You'll conduct regular safety audits, deliver training on safety best practices, and ensure adherence to occupational health and safety regulations. This role requires a proactive mindset to identify potential hazards and mitigate risks across the workplace. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with senior leadership to foster and promote a strong safety culture across the site.
A Day in the Life of a Safety Officer:
Perform regular safety inspections and audits of facilities, equipment, and work areas to ensure adherence to safety regulations.
Develop, implement, and update safety policies and procedures to comply with provincial and federal regulations.
Deliver safety training for employees, including new hires, covering workplace hazards, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.
Monitor and document workplace accidents and near-misses, investigating incidents to determine causes and recommend corrective actions.
Work closely with management to ensure safety programs and initiatives are integrated into daily operations.
Ensure the availability and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by all employees.
Stay informed on the latest safety regulations and industry best practices to maintain a safe working environment.
Promote a safety-conscious culture by encouraging employee participation in safety programs and maintaining open communication on safety concerns.
Lead emergency response drills and ensure that emergency procedures are clearly understood by all staff.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and standards
Strong knowledge of risk assessment and safety audit techniques
Ability to recognize and assess potential safety hazards and recommend corrective actions
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and educate staff at all levels
Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively
Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate safety records and documentation
Previous experience in accident investigation and reporting
Ability to work independently and as part of a team

NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer)
Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety considered an asset* CRSP considered an asset* Valid Class 5 Driver's License
