Our client is a leading construction company with deep roots in Ontario's industrial and nuclear sectors. As we continue to expand, we recognize the need for a Safety Advisor who can drive safety excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across all areas of business.
In this capacity, you are expected to champion a culture of safety through high visibility on construction sites, building trust and credibility with workers, supervisors, and subcontractors through proactive coaching and mentoring. This role will work closely with the HSE Manager, site supervision, and project management to ensure safety is integrated into all operations while staying current with OHSA, CSA standards, IHSA guidelines, and WSIB reporting requirements.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:
Regulatory Compliance & Field Engagement
- Stay current with OHSA, CSA standards, IHSA guidelines, WSIB reporting rules, and client-specific safety requirements.
- Maintain high visibility on site to build trust and credibility with workers, supervisors, and subcontractors through proactive coaching and mentoring.
- Conduct regular site inspections, hazard assessments, and safety audits.
Documentation & Systems Management
- Complete and maintain detailed inspection reports, incident investigations, and audit records in approved safety management systems.
- Lead workplace incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
- Handle worker disclosures (e.g., injuries, fit for duty, accommodation needs) with discretion and professionalism, following internal reporting procedures.
Teamwork & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with HSE Manager, Training Manager & Coordinator, site supervision, and project management.
- Identify hazards, recommend improvements, and contribute to lessons learned, audits, and corrective actions.
- Support Joint Health & Safety Committees and champion a proactive safety culture.
Physical & Travel Requirements
- Able to wear CSA-approved PPE including respiratory protection if required and perform physical duties including lifting (under 40 lbs), sitting, walking, climbing ladders, and standing for extended periods.
- Travel between multiple job sites or client locations may be required. A valid driver's license is mandatory.
Qualifications:
- Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
- Minimum 2-5 years of safety experience in a construction or industrial setting.
- Working knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
- Valid Working at Heights, WHMIS, Health & Safety Awareness for Workers & Supervisors.
- NCSO, GSC-CSC or CRST designation (or in progress).
- Experience working on unionized construction projects, including power generation, utilities, nuclear or ICI construction projects.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001, COR, and client-specific safety requirements.
- Standard First Aid/CPR certification.
- Joint Health & Safety Committee Certification Part 1 & 2 (Part 2 Construction or Utilities).
