Small Potatoes Catering (SPC), a small but mighty catering company in Vancouver's Strathcona neighbourhood, is seeking a Catering Manager to oversee our daily lunch buffet program for our long-term corporate client.
This position coordinates menu planning, prep schedules, team supervision, ordering and shopping, and the overall execution of a consistent daily lunch buffet. While we do occasional special event catering, this role provides minimal support only--events are primarily managed by another team member.
The role averages 35 hours per week, with natural week-to-week swings typical of a small business.
What You'll Do- Daily Catering Operations (Sun-Wed On-Site)
Oversee the day-to-day execution of our daily lunch buffet for our 120 person corporate client.
Coordinate prep lists, prep timelines, staffing, and workflow.
Lead prep and production of all weekly menus
Maintain consistency and portion accuracy throughout service.
Lead the on-site team and address issues calmly and proactively.
Manage delivery logistics (driver's license required).
Menu Creation
Create and coordinate weekly lunch buffet menus, based on:
Sandwiches
Salads
Soups
Ensure menus are balanced, achievable, and aligned with budget and production capacity.
Ordering, Inventory & Shopping
Oversee all purchasing needs, including:
Ordering from multiple suppliers
In-person shopping trips
Maintaining appropriate inventory levels
Team Leadership
Supervise and support our small team of 2-3 staff.
Assign tasks, manage workflow, and keep production on schedule.
Foster a supportive, respectful, and inclusive kitchen environment.
Special Event Support
Provide light, occasional support for special events (approximately once per month).
Primary responsibility for events lies with another team member.
Thursdays - Hybrid Day (WFH or On-Site as Needed)
Prepare upcoming week's menus, staffing plans, and ordering schedules.
Complete administrative tasks and weekly planning.
Liaise with the owner to report on weekly operations, challenges, and highlights.
Flex between home and on-site work depending on needs.
What We're Looking For
5+ years of management experience
3+ years of food industry experience
Strong leadership and team management skills; comfortable directing and supporting staff.
Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
Calm problem-solver with the ability to adapt to changes smoothly.
FoodSafe Level 1 (required) -- we will assist you in obtaining it if you don't currently have it.
Valid BC driver's license (required).
Ability to lift 40-50 lbs and work on your feet.
Nice-to-Haves
Experience with buffet-style or corporate catering.
Familiarity with dietary accommodations.
