Rotating Equipment Construction Coordinator

Job Description

The Rotating Equipment Specialist will play a critical role within the Construction Team, providing technical leadership and field expertise for the installation, inspection, testing, and turnover of all rotating equipment associated with a large-scale industrial gas production facility. This role ensures that rotating equipment is installed in full compliance with project specifications, OEM requirements, applicable codes and standards, and safety regulations, supporting a safe and reliable transition to commissioning and start-up.

Key Responsibilities



Technical & Construction Support



Provide on-site technical leadership for rotating equipment including compressors (centrifugal and reciprocating), pumps, blowers, expanders, turbines, fans, and associated auxiliary systems. Review and interpret design drawings, specifications, datasheets, and vendor documentation related to rotating equipment. Support construction planning and sequencing activities related to equipment installation and alignment. Verify equipment foundations, grouting, anchor bolt installation, and baseplate leveling are executed per specifications. Oversee and validate shaft alignment, coupling installation, soft foot checks, and mechanical runout measurements. Ensure proper installation of lubrication systems, seal systems, cooling systems, and piping interfaces.

Quality Assurance & Compliance



Ensure all rotating equipment installation activities comply with project quality requirements, OEM standards, and applicable codes (API, ASME, CSA, ISO, etc.). Participate in inspections, punch listing, and resolution of non-conformances. Review contractor installation procedures, method statements, and inspection test plans (ITPs). Support factory acceptance tests (FATs), site acceptance tests (SATs), and vendor field service activities.

Interface & Coordination



Act as the primary technical interface between Construction, Engineering, Commissioning, Vendors, and Contractors for rotating equipment scope. Coordinate with piping, electrical, instrumentation, and civil disciplines to resolve interface and constructability issues. Support construction subcontractors with technical clarifications and field problem resolution. Assist in managing vendor representatives and ensuring effective execution of field service activities.

Pre-Commissioning & Turnover Support



Support mechanical completion, system walkdowns, and readiness reviews. Verify preservation, flushing, oil filling, and pre-start checks are completed correctly. Assist commissioning teams during equipment energization, first rotation, and initial operation. Ensure accurate and complete turnover documentation, including as-built records and quality dossiers.

Safety & Leadership



Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with site safety policies, Alberta OH&S regulations, and company standards. Participate in hazard assessments, job safety analyses, and toolbox talks. Proactively identify and mitigate risks related to rotating equipment installation and operation.

Qualifications & Experience



Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification. Minimum

10-15 years

of experience with rotating equipment in large industrial projects (industrial gases, LNG, petrochemical, refinery, or power). Extensive hands-on experience supporting construction and installation of API rotating equipment. Strong working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (API 610/617/618/619, ASME, CSA, ISO). Proven experience working on large EPC or owner-led mega-projects. Ability to read and interpret complex engineering documentation and vendor drawings. Strong communication and coordination skills in a multi-discipline, multicultural project environment.

Preferred Qualifications



Previous experience on industrial gas or air separation unit (ASU) projects. Experience supporting commissioning and start-up activities. Familiarity with cold weather construction practices and winterization requirements in Canada. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta or eligibility to obtain. Experience working under unionized construction environments.

Pay: $110.00-$120.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 - 60 per week
