OVERVIEW OF POSITION



As one of our frontline staff, the Roads Summer Student will ensure the Town of Erin will perform day-to-day general operations in the Infrastructure Business Unit including the operation of light equipment and trucks. Reporting to the Lead-Hand of Roads, this position requires the execution of a wide range of critical daily maintenance duties.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES



Provide hands-on support to road maintenance crews through activities such as pothole patching, roadway and shoulder cleanup, and debris removal within municipal rights-of-way. Assist with routine inspections and upkeep of road-related assets, including culverts, ditches, signage, and guide rails. Assist with special event setup and takedown, including traffic management and garbage removal. Organize resources, supplies, labour, tools, and communicate any additional required materials for seamless task completion. Ensure safe and effective operation of vehicles, machinery and equipment. Keep accurate records of daily tasks and report back to Lead-hand. Perform any other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS



All applicants must provide confirmation of post-secondary full time student status in September 2026 and/or acceptance into full time studies in September 2026. Must have a valid and unrestricted MTO 'G' Class Drivers License in good standing with a Driver's Abstract satisfactory to the Town. Previous experience with roads operations, special events, and/or operating maintenance equipment (small power tools, leaf blower, power broom, etc.) is preferred. Demonstrated ability to interact with the public in a courteous and professional manner. Strong comprehension skills with the ability to follow verbal and written instructions effectively. Excellent interpersonal skills, fostering positive communication and collaboration. Capability and readiness to work in diverse weather conditions. Flexibility and willingness to work shifts, weekends, and adjust to weekly schedules, including taking on additional workload as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT



The incumbent in this position will work a maximum of 37.5 hours per week in variable 8-hour shifts between 7:00am-6:00pm, Monday through Friday within the contract period; however, some flexibility may be required. The incumbent in this position must be comfortable lifting up to 25lbs. Police Record Check satisfactory to the Town. The compensation for this position is $18.66/hr. The Town offers an excellent comprehensive benefit package, and participation in the OMERS pension plan.
