Department/Unit/Program Description

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) serves mainly cardiac, medical, and surgical patients requiring close monitoring and observation. Admissions to ICU occur when an individual experiences a heart attack, chest pain, difficulty breathing, and if intensive observation is required. Patients are closely monitored using special equipment in a quiet atmosphere.

Position Summary

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is seeking a Permanent Part Time Registered Nurse to join their team!

Effective: August 28, 2023

Essential Qualifications

  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing
  • Critical Care Certificate or willing to obtain within 1 year of starting in the ICU
  • Recent experience with mechanical ventilation and defibrillation
  • Coronary Care 1
  • Post diploma courses through Community College in Cardiology and Physical Assessment
  • Current Certificate of Competence
  • Current C.P.R. Certification, on hire
  • Critical Care experience, within the last five years
  • Proven cardiac rhythm interpretation and patient assessment skills
  • Current I.V. Therapy and Medications certification - hemodynamic intravenous medications
  • Proven effective organizational, prioritization, critical thinking, time management, problem solving skills
  • Current ACLS certification required
  • Must be able to fulfill the physical requirements of the job, as per current Physical Demands Analysis (i.e lift, turn, transfer patients manually and with assistance)
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively and co-operatively with all levels of staff, patients and the public
  • Must be compliant with College of Nurses Quality Assurance Standards
Preferred Qualifications
  • B.Sc.N.
  • Coronary Care 2
  • Epic trained or ability to train and pass testing
Hours of Work

Must be available to work 12 hour shifts. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the ONA collective agreement.
