TITLE: Risk Control Assistant DEPARTMENT: Commercial Insurance REPORTS TO: Team Lead, Risk Control/Senior Director, Commercial Insurance STATUS: Permanent, Full Time The role of the Risk Control Assistant will provide aspiring risk control consultants with an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and receive valuable on-the-job training in order to learn more about the insurance industry. The Risk Control Assistant will have the ability to learn the importance of having a collaborative relationship with both claims and underwriting departments, as well as identifying the critical role risk control provides to its partners. Summary of Role & Responsibilities:

  • Complete challenging and meaningful project work on a variety of subjects related to fire protection, property, liability, etc.
  • Work closely with the underwriting team to learn and assist with risk selection.
  • Develop knowledge of risk control, including attending site assessments and completing risk assessment reports. This may require independent travel to insured\xe2\x80\x99s properties.
  • Develop knowledge of commercial and personal lines of business.
  • Review internal, as well as 3rd party risk control reports for quality control purposes.
  • Communicate exposures, loss information, recommendations, and opinion of risk to assist the underwriting department
  • Adhere to customer requirements and quality standards
  • Maintain confidentiality and act with integrity
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:
  • General knowledge of property, commercial general liability and auto insurance is an asset
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Have the ability to work independently (especially during Covid), as well as within a team environment.
  • Basic knowledge and education in risk control inspections on commercial or residential properties is required
  • Be familiar with and can interpret building/fire codes and related standards
  • Strong analysis and problem solving and decision-making capabilities
  • Soft skills for communicating with business partners
  • Strong time management as well as verbal/written communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to develop and prioritize effective plans that define activities, resources, timelines, and cost estimates
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
Education and Experience:
  • Seneca Fire Protection Program or equivalent required
  • CIP/CRM or working towards one of these is an asset
