Overview
Do you have decision-making experience with an administrative tribunal? Do you enjoy critical, analytical thinking, applying law and policy, and weighing evidence to resolve disputes? Are you a skilled writer? We're looking for senior decision makers to join us as Review Officers.
Appointed by the Chief Review Officer and reporting to a senior manager, the Review Officer is a senior statutory officer of WorkSafeBC pursuant to the requirements of the Workers Compensation Act.
You'll be assigned to a team, however you'll work independently to manage and decide on disputed issues which are often contentious and complex. The Review Officer adheres to principles of procedural fairness, applies relevant legislation and policy, addresses customer service needs and responds to changing priorities. The Review Division supports WorkSafeBC's commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
If you're ready to do work that matters, support an organization that is committed to preventing workplace injury, illness, and death, and to compensating and rehabilitating injured workers, apply now and join our dynamic team!
How you'll make a difference: You'll help ensure WorkSafeBC engages with B.C. workers and employers in a fair and consistent way.
Where you'll work
At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.
In this role, you'll work primarily from our Richmond office, with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C. Please note that you are expected to be working full-time onsite during the training period.
What you'll do
As a Review Officer, you'll make, document, and communicate decisions in writing, within statutory timeframes, following reviews of compensation, rehabilitation, prevention, and/or assessment decisions. These decisions are published and are a resource for WorkSafeBC stakeholders.
Although not responsible for providing direct supervision, you'll provide work direction and you'll be a member of the corporate management team. Decisions of the Review Officer are the final decisions of WorkSafeBC, subject to appeal to the Workers' Compensation Appeal Tribunal (WCAT), or in some cases, to judicial review by the Courts.
In addition, you'll consistently model the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.
