Job Description

The City of Edmonton is looking for a passionate environmental educator to help shape a sustainable future through our Waste Services Branch. As the Reuse Education Specialist, you will play a critical role in expanding our educational and community programming to foster a robust circular economy. This position is central to achieving our strategic goals outlined in the Waste Reduction Roadmaps for 2024 and 2030. You will work at the heart of our community engagement efforts, primarily based out of the Reuse Centre. We are seeking an enthusiastic presenter who can inspire diverse audiences to take meaningful action toward waste reduction.
What will you do?

  • Plan, develop, and deliver environmental education programs, workshops, and tours focused on reuse and waste reduction for diverse groups including students, businesses, seniors, and newcomers
  • Create teaching materials and educational resources such as interactive displays, online guides, and social media content to support waste reduction goals
  • Collaborate with community partners and external agencies to identify specific environmental education needs
  • Develop and Implement marketing and outreach tactics to promote programming through print, web, and in-person methods
  • Evaluate program effectiveness through surveys and data collection to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with best practices
  • Assist in recruiting, training, and supervising temporary staff and volunteers
  • Oversee program bookings and administrative tasks, including drafting summary reports on audience trends and demographic analysis
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Recreation/Leisure, or a related discipline, with training in program development
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the development and delivery of education programs, specifically including environmental education
  • Valid Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED certification

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, organization, and customer service skills
  • Ability to adapt materials and delivery styles for various audiences, including people with lived experience or special expertise and engagement participants
  • Proficiency with educational and marketing technologies, including social media, web conferencing, and learning management systems
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to supervise staff and/or volunteers
  • Ability to interact with members of the community, requiring active focused listening and the ability to manage occasionally confrontational situations with professionalism
  • Flexible and adaptable mindset to respond effectively to changing project priorities or event circumstances
  • Competency in the use of Google apps

Conditions of Employment:
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position

Work Environment:
  • Note: This position ?may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement ?with ?the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance

Salary Range: $41.437 - $52.085 (Hourly); $73,001.630 - $91,760.750 (Annually)
