Pearson College UWC is recruiting for a Reunion Canoe Instructor
Reporting to: Alumni Engagement Manager
Position Summary
We're seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Canoe Instructor to lead safe, fun, and engaging canoeing sessions during our upcoming alumni reunion event. This is more than just a paddling gig -- it's a chance to reconnect former students with meaningful memories and provide a great experience on the water. You'll be guiding both experienced and novice paddlers while ensuring safety and creating a warm, welcoming environment.
Responsibilities?
Take 11 alumni of varying skill levels at a time out in the Big Canoe for 1.5-hour trips around Pedder Bay
Ensure the safety of all participants by enforcing water safety protocols and monitoring conditions.
Provide basic canoe instruction, including paddling techniques, launching/landing, and teamwork tips.
Assist with canoe and equipment setup, maintenance, and storage.
Foster a nostalgic and engaging atmosphere that helps alumni reconnect with their past experiences.
Respond to emergencies or incidents calmly and effectively, following established procedures.

Qualifications And Preferred Experience?
Previous experience as a canoe instructor or guide, preferably in a camp or outdoor setting.
Experience working during alumni or community events preferred.
Current certifications in Big Canoe
Pass a criminal record clearance
Strong understanding of water safety practices and risk management.
Friendly, patient, and enthusiastic attitude with strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work with a wide age range of alumni participants.
Must be physically capable of lifting and maneuvering canoes and assisting participants if needed.
Familiarity with Pearson College UWC?preferred
Ability to share stories or history related to the canoeing program
Compensation & Organization??
This is a casual position for 30 hours from July 30 to August 15, 2025. The position is based at Pearson College UWC in Metchosin, approximately a 40-minute drive from downtown Victoria, BC. Compensation is $25.00 per hour. Depending on availability, accommodation and meals can be provided. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled and are reviewed daily.
