The Dispensary Manager oversees all daily operations of the retail cannabis store to ensure a high-standard customer experience, compliant operations, and efficient team performance. This role is responsible for staff leadership, inventory control, compliance management, and driving sales performance. The ideal candidate is reliable, organized, professional, and experienced in a supervisory or management role.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Staff Management
Oversee daily performance of all budtenders.
Create weekly staff schedules ensuring full coverage and efficient staffing levels.
Conduct interviews, hiring, onboarding, and training for new employees.
Delegate tasks clearly and fairly, ensuring expectations are understood.
Hold staff accountable to policies, attendance, and performance standards.
Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and conflict resolution.
Lead pre-shift meetings to review promotions, product knowledge, goals, and updates.
2. Customer Experience
Deliver a premium, friendly, and professional customer experience at all times.
Step in to support customers during busy periods or when issues arise.
Handle customer complaints or escalations promptly and professionally.
Ensure the store atmosphere, cleanliness, and vibe reflect brand standards.
3. Inventory & Product Management
Perform daily inventory counts and adjustments.
Manage ordering, receiving, and stocking of cannabis and accessory products.
Track product movement and trends to guide purchasing decisions.
Maintain proper storage, labeling, and security of inventory.
Ensure accurate pricing, SKU entry, product descriptions, and menu updates.
4. Compliance & Record-Keeping
Ensure all operations follow federal, provincial/state, and local regulations.
Verify all ID checks, purchase limits, and POS records follow compliance laws.
Maintain logs, incident reports, waste documentation, and audit records.
Prepare for inspections and lead corrective action if needed.
5. Financial & Operational Oversight
Complete daily cash handling, deposits, and register reconciliations.
Monitor sales metrics, KPIs, and staff performance reports.
Maintain store budgets including labor, supplies, and inventory costs.
Identify operational inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
6. Store Maintenance & Cleanliness
Ensure the store is clean, sanitized, and organized at all times.
Oversee daily and weekly cleaning checklists.
Ensure bathrooms are clean, stocked, and checked multiple times daily.
Manage maintenance issues, repairs, and supply restocking.
7. Marketing & Promotions
Implement promotional campaigns and in-store merchandising.
Coordinate with media/marketing teams for social content and updates.
Track customer feedback, trends, and promo success to optimize sales.
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of experience in a
manager or supervisor role
(retail or hospitality preferred).
Cannabis retail experience or strong cannabis product knowledge preferred.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage stressful, fast-paced environments with professionalism.
Excellent organization and multitasking skills.
Strong understanding of POS systems, cash handling, and retail operations.
Must meet all legal requirements for working in cannabis retail.
