The MCCS Thrift Shops provide quality used clothing, furniture and appliances at reasonable prices to a growing market. They generate a significant amount of funds for MCC's relief and development projects. The Shop Assistant will work together with the Thrift Shop staff, volunteers and management team in the overall operation of the Thrift Shop.
Assignment Description:
MCCS Thrift Shops seek to be a friendly,caring presence in their community, showing value and respectto all. Practicing and promoting faithful stewardship and care for God's creation and raising funds for MCC are also key components to the mission statement of the Thrift Shops.
The Shop Assistant is accountable to the Manager who will provide direction for the tasks, duties and responsibilities of the Shop Assistant. This is a full-time (40 hours/week) salaried term position (ending no later than Feb 28, 2026), with final schedule determined by the Shop Manager.
Daily work hours are typically 8:30am - 5:00pm, including various Saturdays per month.

+ 2 - 3 years retail sales experience.

Key Responsibilities
Maintain a high level of integrity, reflecting Christian respect and Christ's unconditional love through daily interactions with volunteers, donors and customers.
Follow the MCCS Thrift Shop Mission Statement, and the wishes and directives of the Shop Board, under the guidance of the Manager.
Communicate the MCC mission and values and the mission of the Thrift Shop in a positive manner to donors, volunteers and customers.
Assist in the daily operation of the shop including:
+ Opening and closing the Shop when required;
+ Sort, tag, price and put out donations;
+ Answer the phone; in-store public relations;
+ Keep the Shop neat, clean and attractive;
+ Assist and support daily volunteers;
+ Operate the cash register;
+ Daily tasks related to cash register. In the absence of the Manager, open and close the Thrift Shop, complete deposits and Shop records, and 'manage' the shop appropriately, according to set standards and procedures.
Exercise a compassionate spirit with volunteers, donors and customers on issues which arise as people interact within the store. Model reconciliation and healing in daily actions with public, donors and volunteers.
Assist with merchandise placement, displays, etc. under the Manager's guidance.
Model non-violent peacemaking in the workplace, community and church.
Carry out other duties which arise in the work environment, under the Manager's direction.
Note: Physical labour is involved in this position, sometimes requiring the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

The Rosthern Clothes Basket is located at 2007 6th Street in the community of Rosthern, approximately 45 minutes north of the central city of Saskatoon.
