The purpose of this position is to interact with our guests in a welcoming and positive manner, ensuring, they have a great experience when dining. This position is the representation of the service and overall hospitality of the Courtyard by Marriott and, specifically, the restaurant.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for the following tasks:
Opens the dining room.
Prepare the table, laying out napkins, glassware, utensils, and refill all condiments holders.
Assist in refilling, stocking, and inventory items as needed.
Aware of the kitchen running low on items.
Restocks all items as needed.
Keep track of stock levels and communicate to the appropriate people when things are running low.
Maintains a clean work environment.
Promptly greet every arriving guests, welcoming them to the Courtyard and the restaurant, seating them, presenting menus, and explaining daily features.
When seating guests at the table remove settings that are not required.
Responds quickly and proactively to guest concerns ensuring all orders are taken and orders communicated with the kitchen correctly.
Interacts with guests to obtain feedback on product quality and service levels.
Maintains food handling, sanitation, and cleanliness standards.
Maintaining tables during service, not allowing anything to sit on the tables that is not needed.
Maintain communication with management, kitchen staff service staff, and guests to ensure dining details and handle properly with guest's concerns are addressed.
Suggestive selling and upselling.
Staying up to date on current menu selections.
Must understand the ramifications of common allergies and food restrictions and be able to guide the guests to inappropriate menu selections.
Responsibility for running food to tables.
Ensure quality checkbacks are done in a timely manner.
Provide guests with their bills and take payment in a timely manner.
Thank guests as they are leaving.
Handle table turnover and waiting lists.
Answer the telephone using excellent communication skills and etiquette.
Book reservations.
Maintain a clean working area by sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning glass doors and windows, etc. as needed.
Provide guidance to the guest about hotel, dining options, and general hotel and regional information.
Assisting with special events as needed.
Be punctual, reliable, efficient, and professional at all times.
Enforce provincial/ territorial liquor legislation and regulations
Understands and utilizes the Micros point of sale system.
Proper cash handling and room charge posting procedures.
Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor
Filling in for absent staff as needed.
Adhering to uniform and grooming standards.
Adheres to and reinforces all standards, policies, and procedures.
Understands departmental goals and assists in monitoring them and celebrating accomplishments.
Represents the overall hospitality of the Courtyard and the restaurant.
Must demonstrate the Courtyard culture of being welcoming, dependable, approachable, and appreciative.
Understanding Courtyard culture.
Represents the company in a way that is in keeping with our code of conduct.
Other tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Excellent coordination
Ability to work long shifts
Ability to remain calm during busy shifts
Basic mathematic skills
Stamina to stand and walk throughout shifts
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work in a team
Prior experience as a server would be advantageous
Barista experience an asset
Valid Smart Serve Certification
Valid Food Handlers Certification
Education Requirements
