Under the supervision of the Operations Specialist, Culinary and Pastry Arts ("Culinary OPS"), the Restaurant Host & Server maintains the restaurant outlet(s) in a safe and sanitary condition; confirms number of reservations for the restaurant(s); greets and seats customers; takes and serves food and beverage orders; performs cashier duties; sets restaurant(s) for special events; provides exceptional customer service, and performs other related duties as required.
Functions and Duties
1. Maintains the restaurant outlet(s) in a safe and sanitary condition, adhering to Food Safe, Liquor Branch, and Health & Safety requirements.
2. Maintains restaurant reservations in a software program (i.e., OpenTable). Uses point of sale system (i.e., Profitek) to manage orders and process guest receipts and, in an emergency, adds menu items.
3. Prepares for food and beverage service including, but not limited, to ensuring trays, utensils, and dispensers are full, bar area(s) are prepped and setup, tables are set up, and condiments are set out.
4. Delivers excellent customer service by greeting and seating customers, building rapport, and providing accurate information regarding menu and beverage options.
5. Performs restaurant duties including, but not limited to, taking and serving food orders, preparing and serving non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, wiping and cleaning tables, dispensers, and coffee machines, and bussing dishes.
6. Conducts inventory counts of items such as non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, linens, flatware, and service ware. Offers ordering recommendations when requested.
7. Provides cashier duties including, but not limited to, ensuring there is an adequate cash float, taking in cash and giving change, operating a POS machine, completing an accurate sale report (cash out slip), and counting, recording, and balancing cash.
8. May assist Executive Chef and Culinary OPS with product selection for wine and feature cocktails. Meets prior to service with Executive Chef and/or Lead Restaurant Host & Server to discuss menu offerings.
9. Provides guidance to students on proper method of serving food orders to tables and guests.
10. As needed, assists other Restaurant Host & Servers with training. May provide feedback on standard operating procedures.
11. Performs other related duties are required
Education and Experience
Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent and/or a minimum of 6 months related food and beverage experience is required.
Must possess a valid Food Safe Certificate and the Serving It Right Certificate or be willing to undergo training and certification.
WSET certification would be considered an asset.
