Little Whispers Respite Services is a child- and family-centred organization committed to providing compassionate, respectful, and individualized respite support for children and youth with diverse abilities. Position Summary
We are currently seeking dedicated and compassionate
Respite Support Workers (RSWs)
to provide one-on-one and small-group support to children and youth with developmental disabilities and complex needs. The RSW plays a vital role in supporting daily routines, community participation, transportation, and emotional well-being while working collaboratively with families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
Provide individualized, strengths-based respite support in home, community, and school settings
Support children and youth with daily activities, transitions, routines, and social engagement
Implement behaviour support strategies and individualized care plans as directed
Ensure the physical, emotional, and psychological safety of clients at all times
Support transportation to and from school, appointments, or community activities when required
Maintain accurate and professional documentation (e.g., daily logs, incident reports, Storypark entries)
Communicate effectively and respectfully with families, supervisors, and service partners
Follow all organizational policies, ethical standards, and confidentiality requirements
Use trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and neurodiversity-affirming practices
Qualifications & Requirements
Post-secondary education in
Child & Youth Care, Social Services, Developmental Services, Education Assistant, or a related field
Experience supporting children or youth with developmental disabilities, autism, or complex needs is an asset
Strong understanding of professional boundaries, child protection, and duty of care
Valid
CPR & First Aid (Level C)
certification
Vulnerable Sector Police Check (required prior to start)
Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle
Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Flexible availability, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends
Preferred Training (Assets)
CPI / Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or equivalent
Trauma-Informed Care training
Experience with AAC, sensory regulation strategies, or positive behaviour support
