Independent Respite Care contractors needed for children and youth.
As an independent contractor, the Respite Care Provider works in collaboration and under the direction of the Respite Care Coordinator and provides care for children and youth with developmental needs and/or a diagnosis of autism. Respite Care is provided in the community, the family's home, or in the Respite Care provider's own home and focuses on providing the family with a break while their child or youth receives social and recreational support. Respite care can range from a few hours to overnight and is provided in the Shuswap area, including Salmon Arm, Enderby, Sorrento, Sicamous, and other surrounding areas. This position can be flexible to suit the Shuswap area you prefer to work in.
Respite Care Provider Program Responsibilities
Provide respite care for children and youth in the community, in the family's home, and/or, in your own home.
Using a family-centered approach, work with and take direction directly from the family. All care must be provided within the policies and procedures of the Respite Care Program and Shuswap Children's Association.
Provide care as outlined in the respite care service plan provided by the Respite Care Coordinator.
Consult with the Respite Care Coordinator before any changes are made to the respite care service plan.
Communicate regularly with the Respite Care Coordinator.
Keep an organized and safe environment, including room organization and proper storage of materials and documents.
Administrative Responsibilities
Provide monthly reports to the Respite Care Coordinator.
Provide a parent signed monthly invoice to the Respite Care Coordinator for hours worked.
Maintain client confidentiality and ensure the confidentiality of all client documents.
Attend and participate in Respite care team meetings, training sessions, and workshops as required.
Experience and/or education working with children and youth with support needs.
Education and/or experience working with families is considered an asset.
Non-violence crisis intervention or Mandt Training is considered an asset.
Enjoy playing and having fun with children and youth of all ages.
Comfortable helping children and youth with support needs with personal care if required.
Knowledge of and commitment to the principles and practices of family-centered care.
Ability to be sensitive to the needs of families, which change over time.
Have a non-judgmental, positive, and stereotype-free attitude toward persons with support needs and their families.
Understand and show respect for the diverse values and cultures of the families in the program.
Work, communicate, and collaborate effectively with other staff and families.
Good verbal communication skills.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to take direction from supervisors and apply it to own work.
Calm and compassionate approach to working with children and youth with developmental differences and/or behavioural challenges.
Valid Class V BC driver's license & clean driver's abstract.
Must be able to provide own reliable transportation. Vehicle, vehicle insurance and vehicle mileage costs are included in the compensation package.
Are highly encouraged to purchase their own independent contractor workplace disability insurance coverage. Costs for the disability insurance are at the expense of the Respite Care provider and are included in the compensation package.
Successful completion of a criminal record screening.
A home study will take place when care is provided in the Respite Care Provider's own home, which includes the successful completion of criminal record checks for everyone over the age of 19 living in the home.
Current First Aid Certification, including C.P.R.
Physical fitness to play and do activities with children and youth.
Punctuality and reliability.
This is a casual, part-time, flexible position, working Mondays to Sundays depending on the family needs and can include overnight shifts.
This program does operate on Pro-D days and during Spring and Summer Break.
This is an independent contract position and includes an hourly rate of $30/hour and an overnight flat rate of $345. Under this contract, Respite Care Providers are considered to be self-employed, and the compensation package includes payment for mileage and other expenses incurred during the provision of Respite services.
