Your Opportunity:

We are offering an exciting professional work opportunity for Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTs) to join our multi-site Team supporting the Strathcona Community Hospital and the University of Alberta Hospital and Mazankowski Heart Institute. Working as part of an inter-disciplinary team, the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is involved in the diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients with respiratory diseases, respiratory failure and associated medical and/or surgical problems in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and following up on respiratory care plans, performing respiratory care procedures and training students. The Strathcona Community Hospital offers a 24/7 Emergency Department and a variety of outpatient Ambulatory, Laboratory, and Diagnostic Imaging services. The University Hospital is a tertiary care teaching hospital serving patients in critical care units, emergency, and inpatient units while the Mazankowski Heart Institute provides specialized inpatient, critical care, and surgical services to cardiac patients. As a Respiratory Therapist supporting both facilities, you offer strong respiratory skills which allow you to provide support for acutely and critically sick patients.

Description:

As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA). Additional Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must be a graduate from a recognized school of Respiratory Therapy and eligible to write, or have passed, the National Respiratory Certification Exam as administered by the Canadian Board for Respiratory Care (CBRC or the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapy (CSRT). Current active registration in good standing with CARTA and current basic life support (BLS-HCP) certification is required. One-year Respiratory Therapy clinical experience post-graduation in an acute care setting in a tertiary teaching hospital and current Emergency Department Respiratory Therapy knowledge is required. Current advanced life support certification specific to the role is required. The incumbent must possess excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, have a positive attitude, be highly motivated, and able to work in a team and independently. The successful candidate is responsible to provide proof of active registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA) and to maintain registration throughout the duration of employment. The preferred qualifications include 2-3 years critical care experience in a tertiary teaching hospital and current CSRT membership. Preferred Qualifications:

Graduation from a recognized school of Respiratory Therapy. Successful completion of the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) certification preferred. One-year Respiratory Therapy clinical experience post-graduation, in an acute care setting (preference will be given to those with Emergency experience). Current BCLS-HCP certification required. PALS, NRP and ACLS certification preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with Connect Care training.
