Your Opportunity:Come and join our team at the University of Alberta Hospital! As part of the COPD Self Initiative (CSI) Team, you will work both independently and with interprofessional teams. In this role, you will assess patients, develop and implement RT care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for direct patient care, and for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment, and treatments. As part of the CSI team your responsibilities would include: Provide targeted patient education regarding prevention, treatment, and self-management strategies. Optimize medical therapies using COPD best practice guidelines. Optimize patient quality of life. Optimize health status through ongoing assessment with inter-professional team. Facilitate appropriate follow-up and community referrals to decrease health care system utilization.Description:As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Required Qualifications:Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA). Additional Required Qualifications:Graduation from a recognized Respiratory Therapy Program. Successful completion of the National Respiratory Certification Exam as administered by the College of Respiratory Therapy (CRTA) or the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapy (CSRT). Basic Cardiac Life Support-Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE) or current enrollment in required courses (such as: COPD educator, Asthma educator, Chronic Disease Management). Demonstrated clarity in your communication, organization and consistency of ideas, both verbally and written, including clinical documentation, is required. You must be highly motivated, confident, and enthusiastic individual with a positive attitude whose work aligns with AHS Values. You act quickly and decisively using critical thinking and problem-solving skills. You utilize strong judgment by analyzing facts, considering the impact, and arriving at a sound conclusion, seeking counsel when appropriate. You can work independently and as a part of the team creating strong, effective interpersonal working relationships with peers and other caregivers. You are a reliable worker who uses time effectively and is able to prioritize and complete assigned tasks. Preferred Qualifications:Certified Tobacco Educator (CTE) or current enrollment in required courses (such as: Alberta quits learning series or chronic disease management educator).
