The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager for Inpatient and Ambulatory Medicine, with professional accountability to the Professional Practice Leader of Respiratory Therapy and in collaboration with the Medical Director of the Pulmonary Function Lab, the Respiratory Therapist works as part of the health care team, working with adults and children, with a focus on children. The Respiratory Therapist performs diagnostic breathing tests on patients to determine lung function. These tests include, but are not limited to, spirometry, lung volumes and plethysmography, and lung diffusion testing. Lung tests allow the physician to monitor the severity of impairment, disease progression and course of treatment. Also included are technical duties related to testing, maintenance and evaluation of equipment, and admin/clerical duties as needed.

Your Qualifications

• Successful completion of a Respiratory Therapy Program from an accredited institution
• Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care exams
• Current registration or eligibility for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Respiratory Therapist (NSCRT) required.
• Successful completion of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate required.
• Demonstrated competency in skills necessary to provide services for respiratory care in a pediatric setting
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support certificate would be an asset
• Demonstrated organizational skills and able to work independently.
• Demonstrated competence in communication, interpersonal relations, problem solving, computer applications and innovation.
• Demonstrated ability to keep current in therapeutic and technological advances in respiratory care.
• Familiarity with CareFusion Vmax pulmonary system preferred
• Competencies in other languages an asset. French preferred
