Position Summary

:


The Resource Nurse of the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Treatment Centre of Waterloo Region is expected to be an expert in Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence care, reporting to and taking direction from the SADVTC Program Manager. The primary function of the role is to lead quality improvement initiatives in alignment with the program's clinical services plan and the organization's strategic objectives. The Resource Nurse will collaborate with the Program Manager and Program Director to identify areas for improvement within their department and upon direction from the Program Manager, the Resource Nurse will be responsible for leading the planning, implementation, evaluation and sustainability of selected quality improvement initiatives.


Responsibilities:



+ Provide clinical leadership to the individual program SA/DV nurses by providing mentorship, guidance and support. + Coordinate collaboration between the nurses, counsellors and other clinicians.
+ Provide orientation and on-boarding of new nurses to the team. Support employee recruitment, selection, retention, and professional development.
+ Ensure nurses meet the requirements to attend virtual Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training.
+ Provide nursing follow-up appointments for patients on HIV PEP medication and those who have experienced strangulation.
+ Provide follow-up forensic photography of patient injuries.
+ Perform follow-up sexual assault evidence kits by booked appointment.
+ Provide booked appointment pediatric visits to children who have experienced sexual assault and write clinical pediatric reports as needed.
+ Complete chart reviews and provide feedback to clinicians.
+ Lead nurse team meetings.
+ Provide leadership in vicarious trauma support for clinicians.
+ Provide outreach/education to community partners including; emergency departments, police and other community agency staff.
+ Ensure compliance with reporting requirements such as Network data reporting
+ Ensure program policy and procedures, Medical Directives and documentation is up to date.
+ Participate in program leader meetings, program educator meetings and nurse Community of Practice meetings.
+ Provide Leadership in pediatric care.
+ Work in collaboration with the Regional Clinical Practice Leader.
+ Lead and sustain quality improvement and process improvement initiatives
+ Monitor supplies and equipment at all regional hospitals and adjust resources required on an ongoing basis as well as annually during the call for capital.
+ Follow up on broken and non-functioning equipment as needed to ensure repairs are requested and completed
+ Perform monthly department inspection and follow up on any occupational health and safety concerns noted in the department
+ Anticipates emergent and future issues/changes and provides leadership and vision in short- and long- term planning; contributes to strategic planning at all levels
+ Assists Program Manager in completing annual staff performance appraisals
+ Supports and monitors the development of performance management and improvement plans
+ Organization and priority setting of day-to-day activities that fall within the scope of identified work
+ Carrying out activities, contacting, meeting with people etc. that fall within the scope of identified work
+ Problem-solving and issue resolution that falls within the scope of responsibility and experience, involving both internal and external stakeholders
+ Regulatory Standards - support data specialist in how and what data to utilize
+ Decisions that do not affect the agreed upon time, cost and/or scope.
+ Prioritization of tasks and activities
+ How stakeholders need to be involved (clinical or non-clinical staff)
+ Technology alternatives and solutions can be identified
+ Training requirements and strategies
+ Communication of requirements and strategies
+ Decisions of the above nature will be made on a daily basis.
+ The Resource Nurse will make recommendations on workflows, changes to processes and staff mixes and ratios. Final decisions will be made by the Program Manager or Program Director.

Position Requirements:

+ Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the CNO + Certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner
+ Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification.
+ Five (5) years related clinical experience in sexual assault and domestic violence care in an Acute Care Hospital.
+ Current up-to-date knowledge of hospital procedures and current trends in healthcare.
+ Proven experience with change management.
+ Demonstrated project management and problem-solving skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary patient care team with a focus on patient-centered care.
+ Proficient computer skills including Meditech, Microsoft Word, and basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
