Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Possess and maintain a valid Canadian Firearms Licence (PAL).
Possess and maintain a valid full Manitoba Class 5F driver's licence.
Must be willing to work weekends, overtime, and be on call all hours of the day.
Must be able to meet Department Problem Wildlife Firearm Training and Certifications Standard.
Must be physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, walking on uneven terrain, working in adverse weather conditions.
Qualifications:
Essential:
Experience with Problem Wildlife Control and trapping.
Experience and proficiency with the use of firearms.
Ability to start tasks on own intiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to make Safe and Effective decisions under stressful situations.
Strong Verbal Communication Skills.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Desired: Experience with wildlife biological sampling, data recording, report writing, and maintaining records.
Experience in mechanical, carpentry, building maintenance and minor repair of equipment using power and hand tools.
Remote or Backcountry Patrol Experience.
Experience operating equipment such as an ATV, snowmobile, watercraft.
Duties:
Responsible for daily operations of the Polar Bear Alert Program such as hazing, setting up bear traps and transporting polar bears into holding facility. Assisting in the handling, mark-capture and recording biological data of polar bears. Provide public safety support in con-junction with the Conservation Officers as it relates to the Polar Bear Alert Program. Monitor a 24/7 emergency line. Provide navigation support to the conservation Officers of the local area on ski-doo, watercraft and ATV, and maintain equipment and infrastructure. Conduct educational workshops such as trappers education & fire smart; maintain inventory/records; Liaison between local stakeholders and the department regarding natural resource management, Communicate department policy through education to the public.
