This position supports the provision of ongoing quality within the Resource Development Program. The applicant must be self-directed and able to carry out assigned and/or delegated tasks. This position will provide the opportunity assisting in various clerical and Resource Development fundraising and event management duties within and outside the Nanaimo Child Development Centre.
Please note that some weekend hours will be required (July 19 and 20, and August 16).
Duties and Responsibilities
Resource Development: Assist with tasks related to event planning, fundraising and promotion. This includes:
Creating, scanning/copying and laminating resources.
Respond to routine inquiries regarding the organization and service provided.
Communicate using Microsoft Outlook to send and receive emails.
Using digital creative programs (e.g. Microsoft Publisher, Word, and Canva) to create promotional materials to be utilized in social media (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, website), or hard copy format (e.g. brochures, posters, and flyers).
Perform other duties as assigned to support the organization's fundraising and communication efforts.
Provide typing/clerical support as required.
Provide staff support to the Silly Boat Regatta Committee as needed, including logistical planning and event coordination.
Provide support and play a key role in organizing/carrying out fundraising events (internal and external) as required.
Data entry and other statistical information using Microsoft Excel.
Assist and maintain fundraising and donor database and records in accordance with fundraising standards of practice.
Develop and assist in organizing donor and volunteer events in accordance with Centre policies and procedures.
Take minutes at meetings.
Answer telephone and/or in person inquiries and route to appropriate staff if needed.
Assist in recruiting, training and recognizing volunteers.
Perform other duties as may be required.
Flexible schedule as may be required.
Maintain client confidentiality, professional and NCDC code of ethics.
Be familiar with Centre and department policies and practices.
Skills/Qualifications
Is between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations
Experience and/or related training in administrative and recreation-based programming with children/youth
Independence and initiative are essential skills
Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
Experience in office setting with Microsoft Office programs is preferred but not mandatory
Excellent time management skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Valid First Aid Certificate preferred
Valid Food Safe Certificate preferred
