Job Description

The Joint Secretariat is looking for a full time Resource Biologist to support the work of the Joint Secretariat (JS) at its office in Inuvik, NT. Under the direction of the Committee Program Manager (CPM), the incumbent is responsible for providing technical and administrative support to the FJMC to meet its mandate on all matters related to fisheries and marine mammal policy, research, renewable resource management and conservation, regulation, and enforcement.Preference will be given to beneficiaries of the IFA, those with knowledge of the IFA, and those with prior experience in the North.Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and administrative support to the FJMC during their four annual business meetings, by assisting with arrangements, agenda development, preparation of meeting minutes, motions, and action items, and completing the meeting
  • Review and assist Chairperson on tracking FJMC budgets and contribution agreements.
  • Provide coordination between the FJMC and local monitoring programs in the ISR.
  • Support the coordination of FJMC projects and programs, including the Husky Lakes Ecological Assessment and community-based Arctic char working groups.
  • Represent FJMC in the DFO Fish Habitat Protection Program and the DFO Marine Conservation and Planning Program, including Marine Environmental Quality, Marine Protected Areas and WAMPA.
  • Participate in FHPP and MCP-related field work and activities, where and when appropriate and as workload and scheduling allows.
  • Provide administrative support through the JS for FJMC members travel, expenses, meetings, conferences, and any additional activities.
  • Provide assistance with the public consultation processes and interface with key stakeholders.
  • Assist FJMC members, as appropriate, on special tasks and studies related to the FJMC vision and the FJMC role in lnuvialuit co-management.
Qualifications:
  • A university degree in Environmental, Biological, or other Renewable Resource management field.
  • More than 2 years of environmental management, conservation, or related work experience.
  • Experience and training in natural resource habitat management, mitigation, and remediation.
  • Commitment to the mobilization and application of lnuvialuit Knowledge in the design and delivery of all FJMC programs and activities.
  • Collaborative and cooperative mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and without close supervision.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Enhanced knowledge of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement (IFA), Co-management agreements and principles
  • Prior experience living in northern Canada is preferred.
