About the Position

This position develops and manages all required print and web promotional materials for the International Development department (IDD). The purpose of this role is to support the promotion of our fundraising campaigns ( Partners in Mission, Gifts of Hope, Brighter Futures, Hope for the World, Under the Tree) and through advertising highlight and educate the public on the international humanitarian relief and development arm of the The Salvation Army globally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Marketing and Media

  • Develops and maintains promotional material for the Partners in Mission, Gifts of Hope, Under the Tree, Hope for the World & Brighter Futures Sponsorship Campaigns including meeting deadlines, copy editing, editorial style standards ensuring overall quality of all resources.
  • Supports the development of promotional material for the Youth Ambassador Program
  • Provides operational support to marketing and media initiatives for the IDD.
  • Supports the IDD with innovative presentations, strategies, and ideas to engage Salvationists and the public in the international ministry of The Salvation Army
  • Creates and Develops content for social media (i.e. twitter, Facebook etc.) working closely with the Communications Department at THQ
  • Develops a calendar highlighting important themes and dates for international development (day of the child, world health day etc.)
  • Organizes and maintains media library of relevant video, photos, and internet links.
  • Meets with internal Departments and Divisions to promote campaigns and publications to enhance the awareness of IDD products and services.
  • Represents the IDD at events for promotional purposes.
  • Provides technical support for the IDD.
Writer/Editor
  • Writes, plans, and organizes content for department newsletters, community newspapers, direct mail assets and TSA periodicals within the territory and International Salvation Army, working closely with the THQ Communications Department and external vendors as appropriate.
  • Identify and curate potential photos, graphics, or videos for the various campaigns.
  • Recruit and supervise volunteer writers for any assigned publications.
  • Research international development areas of interest as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Completion of a university degree in international development, journalism, business administration or related field
  • Minimum of three years (3) related writing/communications/web/social media/business experience in an organizational setting, with 2-3 years of non-profit experience.
  • Computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet and database skills
  • Excellent working knowledge and experience in various software and reporting tools such as Microsoft Office, WordPress, Hootsuite, and an ability to learn new applications.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications preferred (Indesign, Photoshop, Premiere, and ability to learn new applications quickly)
  • Knowledge of global issues and international development an asset
  • Understand and support of the mission of The Salvation Army in an international context.
  • Respect and understand The Salvation Army\'s mission, culture, and values.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of clients, staff, public and community agencies
  • Outstanding time management skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), clear and simple to understand.
  • Excellent use of English language and writing for print and online applications
  • Good inter-personal and donor support skills
  • Able to work in a consultative, diplomatic and tactful manner
  • Strong sense of integrity with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility
  • Seeks common ground in navigating challenging issues and constructively manages conflict to create win-win solutions wherever possible
  • Able to proactively recognize potential risks and issues, respond with solutions and engage others in implementing change
  • Effective organizational and time management skills - self-motivated and disciplined self-starter
Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $36,076 - $45,096, with the ability to progress to a maximum of $54,115. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
