Location: INUVIK, NT
Position Status: FULL-TIME (37.5 HOURS PER WEEK)
The Resolution Health Support Worker is responsible for providing mental health and emotional support services to Indian Residential School (IRS) survivors and their families, working closely with Cultural Support Workers (Elders and/or traditional healers) who support the program delivery.
Role Responsibilities

  • Provide frontline emotional support to eligible former IRS students and their family members as required in all phases of the IRS settlement agreement.
  • Attend and provides emotional support at Independent Assessment Process (IAP), Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) hearings, court hearings, Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and Commemorative events.
  • Provide a liaison role between Health Canada, IRSRC and communities to raise awareness about the National Resolution Framework.
  • Develop relationships with IRS Settlement Agreement stakeholders to raise awareness of services available to IRS Students under the IRS Resolution Health Support Program, Indian Residential Schools Resolution Canada and Adjudication Secretariat.
  • Research and outsource to health and wellness service providers within the community and outside the community and establish and maintain working relationships.
  • Develop communication and promotional strategies and materials to promote and inform Participants of Health and Wellness initiatives by the GTC.
  • Identify claimant support needs offered within the IRS Mental Health Support Program.
  • Deliver the Health Canada\xe2\x80\x99s Resolution Health Support Program which provides mental health and emotional support services to eligible former IRS students and their families throughout all phases of the Indian Residential School Settlement Agreement, including Common Experience Payments, Independent Assessment Process, Truth and Reconciliation Commission events and Commemorative activities.
  • Attend regular training for RHSW(s) on subjects relevant to the delivery of emotional support services such as crisis intervention, post-traumatic stress, conflict resolution, vicarious trauma and self-care, and the IRS Settlement Agreement Process.
  • Establishes clear work plans and priorities for staff in line with division and organizational priorities and frameworks.
  • Ensures effective and productive Health and Wellness departmental management with clear communication between program areas.
  • Coordinates with federal and territorial stakeholders and funding contributors to ensure that funding from all sources is properly accessed and utilized.

Role Qualifications and Competencies Requirements
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in health, social sciences or related field, plus 5 years of experience in the delivery and coordination of health promotion programs or related programming, or an equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Experience working in rural and remote Indigenous communities.
  • Knowledge of the overall Gwich\xe2\x80\x99in Tribal Council\xe2\x80\x99s mandate, goals and objectives and the political and social environment in which GTC programs and services are offered.
  • Understanding and a working knowledge of the Gwich\xe2\x80\x99in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement
  • Knowledge and experience in community development in health and wellness
  • Understanding of the NWT health and social services system, including opportunities and challenges for Gwich\xe2\x80\x99in communities and Participants
  • Knowledge and understanding of promotion and prevention programs as they relate to wellness and the social determinants of health.
  • Knowledge of issues related to residential schools, addictions and trauma.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous healing and mental wellness
