ABOUT THE ROLE



The Residential Support Worker (Hope Terrace House), under the direction of the Team Lead is responsible for supporting and encouraging residents living at the Hope Terrace House. They are required to support and provide activities of daily living support. The RSW is also responsible for having a good working knowledge of resident care plans as laid out by the Care Team. The RSW will support and hold residents accountable to completing their agreed upon care plan. They will utilize a holistic approach by incorporating emotional, spiritual, mental and physical wellness through a client-centered and trauma informed approach. They will develop positive communication and rapport with residents. Conflict resolution is an integral part of the RSW role. Due to the nature of the position the RSW will occasionally experience emotional escalations from and between participants and will work through these incidents, in collaboration with the Hope Terrace Care Team, to come to healthy resolution.

This position requires individuals who are willing to work on a 365 rotating shift rotation which includes holidays and weekends and can include nights.

Duties and Responsibilities Program Delivery



Implement strategies that support residents in meeting the goals laid out in their care plan

Facilitate and promote a team focused philosophy that leads to a positive work environment.

Support the work of the Hope Terrace Care Team; this includes keeping accurate records and executing strategies designed for each resident.

Advocate for the needs of residents with community resources, income supports, medical concerns etc.

In collaboration with the team, ensure Orbit charting, tracking and forms are completed on time.

Provide support with residents community outreach. This includes occasional transportation to appointments and community integration.

Provide practical assistance to residents that enhance daily living skills, foster accountability and overall well-being.

Initiate and lead programming for house residents

In collaboration with Hope Terrace Care Team, assist participants in pest control, hygiene management, apartment maintenance, and daily living skills

Provide support for residents by assisting with appointment reminders, scheduling, and cancelling appointments, assist with navigating social service systems

Support management of the home including maintenance requests, monitoring cleaning and cooking weekly dinners.

Provide de-escalation, resident/roommate mediation and conflict solutions

Perform other building and/or program duties as required.

General and Administrative



Maintain accurate written case file notes, computer records, update program databases (Orbit), program information, and critical incident reports within established time standards

Maintain accurate expense logs for reimbursement

Participate in probationary and annual performance reviews

Complete daily shift tracking as required

Attend scheduled staff and supervision meetings

Perform other duties as required

Financial



Collect payments from residents for rental insurance, rental payments, and the like.

Qualifications Education and Experience



Degree or Diploma in Human Services

Minimum of one-year related employment experience e.g., high-risk populations, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Supportive Housing Experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, result oriented, good time management, strong organizational, problem-solving, reliable and advocacy skills

Familiar with issues of poverty, houselessness, and Edmonton's urban core

Familiar working with high-risk populations and an understanding of Aboriginal cultures, history, and current issues

Knowledge of Recovery informed approach, FASD Informed approach, Client-Centered approach, Trauma Informed Practice will be considered an asset

Strong active listening skills will be considered an asset

Class 5 drivers license preferred

In-depth knowledge of Indigenous practices and culture will be considered an asset

Ability to speak Cree, Blackfoot, Michif, Inuit or Dene will be considered an asset

Conditions of Work



Rotating shift work: 4 shifts on, 4 shifts off

Hours of work: 2pm - 12 am

Opportunities to work casually on the night shift (sleep shift) if interested.

In person position in Edmonton, Alberta
